On Monday, I received an email from the folks putting together WordCamp New York City. This event is shaping up to be the next best thing when compared to WordCamp San Francisco. Due to the large demand for this event and the international, national, local people that will be showing up, WordCamp NYC needed to obtain a bigger venue. Thankfully, they pulled through and the event will be taking place at Baruch College of the City University of New York. Blogs@Baruch, a program overseen by the College’s Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute is the largest WordPress project at CUNY. It is built on WordPress MU and enables members of the Baruch academic community to create individual, group or course blogs in just a few clicks. Baruch College is an advocate of WordPress and other open-source technology, making it a perfect fit for WordCampNYC. The end of the email confirms that […]

WordCamp San Francisco was a total hoot! I met up with a bunch of old friends, made a few new ones, had some good food, drank a few brews, hung out with a whole lot of cool people and all the while, I was surrounded by WordPress goodness. Thank you to all the organizers, volunteers and participants! A few bits of interesting statistics and news from WordCamp San Francisco “State of the Word”: WordPress.org downloads were nearly twice as many as last year There are twice as many WordPress.org blogs on the web this as compared to last year Akismet caught just as many spam comments this year as last (count grew very little) There is a Blackberry version of the WordPress management app coming soon, iPhone version will see an upgrade There will be a GPL paid themes page on the WordPress Extend to encourage the business model At some point in the future, […]

WordCamp India is On!. The list of speakers is quite impressive and includes both Matt and Om for various talks including Matt’s famous “State of the Word“. It looks to be a fun and information filled event with quite interesting fare such as SEO, IP rights and other both techie and non-techie topics. As luck would have it, I am going to be traveling though Dubai and India next weekend (days late, dollars short) and will not be able to attend. From the list of sponsors, the list of attendees and the list of speakers, the enthusiasm for blogging and WordPress in India is not lost on me. If you have not checked out the Delhi Bloggers Group or one of the many other blogging groups and partnerships mentioned and you are an Indian blogger, you might be missing out. I am hopeful that the turnout will be fantastic and […]

Thankfully, WordCamp Columbus is being held in Ohio rather than any of the other states that have a city named Columbus. In all honesty, I didn’t know this event was going to be in Ohio until I checked out their advertising graphics. If you are going to host a WordCamp event, please be sure to include city and state on the About page so that people know exactly where the event will take place. Or you’ll end up clueless like me. With that said, I’m happy to see that a date has been nailed down for WordCamp Columbus, that being May 16th, 2009. I hope the event lasts during the entire weekend and not just on a Friday. The event looks to be taking place at Columbus State Community College. Unfortunately, due to WordCamp Mid-Atlantic occurring during the same weekend, Matt will only be doing a keynote session at the […]

Those of you who have been wanting a Technology conference to visit the South Eastern United States are now in luck. The event is called South By Deep South and is a take on the familiar South by South West conference. The event will be held in Birmingham, Alabama on September 26th-28th. The final details of the event are still being worked out but Ike Pigott has already let us know some of what we can expect from this event: Social Media/PR/Marketing Web development A full-blown WordCamp In case you missed it, that last one says WordCamp. Personally, I thought Atlanta, Georgia would of been the first city in the South Eastern United States to get a WordCamp event, but it looks like I was wrong. Ike also notes that there will be a SideWalk Festival that will be taking place during the same weekend. I’m really glad to see […]

This might be the last WordCamp Dallas 2008 post you see on this blog and since that is the case, better to go out with a bang! In case you were one of the unlucky ones who didn’t have a chance to attend the conference live, the good news is that there were plenty of attendees blogging, vlogging, and live blogging the event. I present to you a list of links which will correspond to the conference schedule. Matt Mullenweg discussing WordPress 2.5 and beyond.
