Blogging News, WordPress

Posterous, a popular hosted blogging platform, has been acquired by Twitter. The team behind Posterous assures that the service will not be disrupted, but will give “ample notice if [they] make any changes to the service,” and Sachin Agarwal (Posterous founder and CEO) is now a Product Manager for Twitter. It is not yet clear if Twitter intends to make use of the Posterous service or if this acquisition was intended to just bring the talent behind Posterous to Twitter’s ever-growing platform. If you’re concerned about the future of your Posterous Space, it’s not too late to switch to a self-hosted WordPress installation (where you have full control over your content) with this importer. If you prefer a hosted environment, like Posterous, you can move to WordPress.com following this handy guide.

Twitter introduced Blackbird Pie back in May of this year, providing the world with an easy way to embed fully functional tweets. Before Blackbird Pie’s introduction, the common way to embed tweets was to simply take a screenshot. Blackbird Pie not only easily embeds the tweet itself, but also leaves the profile link, @-mentions, hashtags, and other links in tact. Despite Blackbird Pie’s usefulness and firm roots in Twitter, it’s received little recognition over the past months. Blackbird Pie will be getting some well-deserved recognition now that it has been fully integrated with WordPress.com, and those of you with self-hosted WordPress blogs can join the party too with the Twitter Blackbird Pie plugin. What do you think of Blackbird Pie? Will you be making use of it on your blog?

HOW-TO, WordPress, WordPress Plugins, WordPress Tips

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the new Twitter button, which finally provides an official way to share links to Twitter and display the number times each link has been shared, but how do you go about adding it to WordPress? If you love messing with your theme, you can use the official Twitter button generator to generate just a few lines of HTML code that can be inserted into your theme templates, but why not use a plugin to simplify the whole process? I highly recommend Simple Twitter Connect. This plugin, or rather series of plugins, will provide a simple yet customizable way to automatically add the new Twitter button to your posts and pages. You’ll also enjoy a wealth of additional features, including the ability to automatically tweet your posts while publishing, display a list of followers, use your Twitter credentials to login to the admin panel, and […]

WordPress Plugins

Many of us seldom visit the admin dashboard in WordPress, even if we do we may not really pay attention to the updates available to the plugins we use, one of our twitter followers for @weblogtooltips Avaz tweeted this. Taking cue from that I quickly wrote a plugin that will do what Avaz suggested, it will send out updates via email to administrators whenever there are new plugin updates available to install. You can setup the updates to go out daily, weekly or monthly and also choose to receive intimations for deactivated plugins. The plugin requires you to setup the options before it actually works, you will see a message in the admin header to setup the option if you haven’t done that at-least once. For for information and downloading visit the Plugin Updates Email Notifier homepage. We keep a hawk eye on our twitter account, so don’t forget to […]
