Dion Hulse a.k.a. DD32 who is a very active WordPress contributor created a ticket in Trac about eight weeks ago outlining his proposal for a new theme to be based on the current WordPress codebase. It’s long been known that a majority of themes that are created for WordPress end up using Kubrick as the base theme. In this day in age, that is not such a good idea as this leads to themes that are not easy to customize, little documentation, and possibly ugly code. DD32’s proposal for a new base theme contains the following suggestions: Uses clean markup Has a basic style included, Which is designed to be replaced. The default style should be able to be used by itself, But it should be in such a way that its simple to be customized Doesn’t rely upon fixed width styling, or fixed background images Uses limited JavaScript Uses […]

Some of you may remember that back on January 15th, I asked if you had ever published a blog post via email. Many of you in the comments let me know that you enjoyed using Postie but wished it contained some of the same features that are found with the Posterous service. According to Robert Felty who has taken over development of the plugin, the new version of Postie enables the following: Postie offers many advanced features for posting to your blog via e-mail, including the ability to assign categories by name, included pictures and videos, and automatically strip off signatures. It also has support for both imap and pop3, with the option for ssl with both. [Continue Reading...]Scott Wallick, the author of the popular and well known Sandbox theme has announced on his personal blog that he is selling the Sandbox domain along with Plaintxt.org. The sale does not include the actual themes since they have been developed and released under the GPL license. Scott does provide a reason for why he is selling the domains: I have withdrawn from the WordPress community. Active development of my themes and plugins has stopped simply because I am unable to continue the necessary development. In a way, they have a life of their own. [Continue Reading...]There are a number of options available to publish articles to your blog outside of your WordPress Write panel such as through XML-RPC via a third party blogging client or through an application such as the one available for the iPhone. However, did you know that you can also publish posts through email? It’s true! The feature has been around for quite some time. For how long I’m not sure because I was unable to track down when it became a core feature but it looks like it has been around since 1.5 or below. Plugin Review: Autoclose
The man, the myth, the legend, Ajay D’Souza not only brings you news of the latest WordPress plugins and themes to hit the community but he also has a few plugins under his belt. Today, I’ll be reviewing one of those plugins called Autoclose Autoclose enables a granular approach to managing pingbacks/comments/trackbacks on both posts and pages. Some of the highlights that the plugin features: Close Comments on posts/pages older than (number of days). Close Pingbacks/Trackbacks on posts? Close Pingbacks/Trackbacks on pages? Close Pingbacks/Trackbacks on posts/pages older than (number of days). The ability to configure when the plugin runs its configuration to detect if a comment/trackback/pingback need to be closed off.
