Postie Has New Life

WordPress Plugins

Some of you may remember that back on January 15th, I asked if you had ever published a blog post via email. Many of you in the comments let me know that you enjoyed using Postie but wished it contained some of the same features that are found with the Posterous service.

According to Robert Felty who has taken over development of the plugin, the new version of Postie enables the following:

Postie offers many advanced features for posting to your blog via e-mail, including the ability to assign categories by name, included pictures and videos, and automatically strip off signatures. It also has support for both imap and pop3, with the option for ssl with both.

The latest version which is 1.1.5 contains the following feature set:

  • Added option to have postie posts be pending review, published, or draft
  • Settings panel only shows up for administrators
  • Need not be user “admin” to modify settings or to post from non-registered users
  • Can now set administrator name. Authorized e-mail addresses which don’t have a user get posted under this name
  • Will use IPTC captions if available
  • Added option to replace newline characters with

If you’re grateful for Robert stepping up and taking over development, think about donating some cash to him or at least, say thanks.

Wow, that’s cool. While I didn’t participate in January’s discussion, I’ll say that I’ve never posted by email before either. I suppose it could come in handy if you want to make the same post amongst multiple blogs, as if you’ve got to get on the web to post via email you might as well go to your blog. Or am I missing something?

I’m trying to get Postie to work and having a hard time figuring it out. I’m using wordpress 2.7 and postie v 1.1.5, and I cannot figure out where the “Options” screen is for this plugin – so I have no idea where I am suppose to set the email address. Help, I’m about to tear my hair out! Thanks.

I installed 1.1.5 initially as well and could not find the options link.
I removed and installed 1.1.1 and it works fine. I supose it most be some kind of bug with 1.1.5.

So are you able to actually post via email with version 1.1.1 ? I finally got the Postie option screen with ver 1.1.5, but have not been able to ever successfully post to my blog via email. Let me know if you’ve been successful. Thanks
