WordPress 2.4 Admin Preview: Jordan built up a mockup of the new WordPress 2.4 admin backend. Some of the features work, some of them do not. What Happened In 2007

2007 has almost come to a close and it’s always a good time to reflect on the previous 365 days. In this case, I take a look back at the progress of WordPress during 2007 by documenting each release of WordPress. For the timeline, I used a free web service called xtimeline. This timeline showcases all of the major releases of WordPress during 2007. The timeline begins on January 5th, 2007 and ends on October 26th, 2007. The space in between the months at the bottom of the timeline represent the days. You can also hover your mouse cursor over each entry to see the date. If you click on an entry, the details for that entry will show up on the sidebar on the right. WordPress Extend Plugins: I Love Thee

I have to admit, I love WordPress Extend Plugins. My first experience with the service came in April of this year when I released Ajax Edit Comments. I was mainly drawn to the service because of the promise of added publicity and the ease of tracking statistics. My plugin crossing the 10,000 mark is a testament in itself to how WP Extend (and the WP community) helps promote plugins. Once you get used to it, WP Extend is an easy and powerful tool for launching (and maintaining) a plugin. Sure the SVN takes a little bit of getting used to, but numerous people have written great tutorials on how to get your plugin listed (Windows, Linux, Mac?). And since WordPress 2.3, WordPress users are automatically notified when a plugin listed at WP Extend is updated. It can’t get any better than that. Or, can it? I love you WP Extend […]

Ant Eksiler of Turk Hit Box is giving away free custom WordPress themes. I’ve seen an example or two of his work, and it looks very good – good enough, in fact, that I’ve put a request of my own in. There is a catch, though. From Ant’s blog: What’s the catch? Well, there’s always a catch. To be eligible for a Free Custom WordPress Theme, you should meet this criteria: You blog should have at least a Pagerank of 4. Your blog must be older than 8 months. Your rss subscriber count should be more than 50. You cannot remove the footer link, “designed by Turk Hit Box”. If you meet those criteria and are interested in a professionally designed theme, then go check out Ant’s site and put your request in.

I have always wanted to ask this question from my readers since I believe that the answer would help me provide more ways receive the information that is posted on this blog (and help WordPress users). Since I came across this cool app for Facebook that allows you to attach polls to your Facebook pages, I added it to the weblogtoolscollection.com Facebook fan page. With that in mind, where do you read weblogtoolscollection.com? The poll embed code is not behaving. If you want to vote, please visit the facebook fan page, click on “View polls for weblogtoolscollection.com” and vote there. I should have used a better polling plugin like the one from GamerZ. Comment Stupidity Filter On Its Way: Interesting site pointed out by WebProNews about a comment stupidity filter that could differentiate between sarcasm and stupidity (and I presume spam is stupid). Apparently, stupid comments (as opposed to stupid people) tend to use more consonants and more clever comments use more vowels. This can get pretty offensive! CNN Money, where this was originally noticed, must have been having a slow day. The solution we’re creating is simple: an open-source filter software that can detect rampant stupidity in written English…. we’re collecting a ranked corpus of stupid text, gleaned from user comments on public websites and ranked on a five-point scale. Interesting. I hope the StupidFilter folks have spent some time thinking about internationalization of comments and encoding standards in their upcoming WordPress plugin. Why You Need to Make a Facebook Fan Page for Your Website NOW!: An interesting bunch of reasons why you should have a Facebook page for your blog or website. Sadly, I get addicted easily and once I got into Facebook, I could not stop. I created a page for this blog, created my profile and then started looking at their API which is incredible.
