One lesser known skills of our very own Mark Ghosh is his strong coding abilities and his occasional WordPress Plugins that he makes available to all our readers. Two such plugins were the Moderation Notify Author and Contextual Related Posts, written long long ago. With the arrival of WordPress 2.7, we felt it time to update the plugins and so here we are! Moderation Notify Author The problem on multiple-author blogs running WordPress is that it doesn’t automatically notify the author of a post about waiting comments. Instead all comment moderation requests go to the admin. This plugin will notify the author of the post in addition to the admin and thus allow the author to share the responsibility of moderating comments on his posts. The plugin is smart enough to ensure that the admin does not get a duplicate email. Running a multi-author blog? Read more and download Moderation […]

Weekly Plugin Review, WordPress Plugins

Last week we reviewed Referrer Detector. This week we review a similar plugin called WP Greet Box. What is WP Greet Box? This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your new visitors depending on their referrer URL. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to digg your post if they like it. Another example, when a visitor clicks through from Twitter, they will see a message suggesting them to twit the post and follow you on Twitter. You can also set a default greeting message for new visitors (not matching any referrer URLs) suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Having these targeted suggestions will help your blog increase exposure, loyal readership, and reader interaction. Screenshot Features Show a different greeting message to your visitor depending on the referrer URL. You can add/edit/delete/disable these greeting messages […]

It’s not often that we feature plugins or themes that you have to pay for but when the product is fully compliant with the GPL, things are gravy! In this special episode of WordPress Weekly, we talk e-commerce with Jonathan Davis who is the developer of the Shopp E-Commerce plugin for WordPress. Jonathan gives us the low down on what his plugin has to offer. What is also interesting is his business model. If you’re interested in learning about an e-commerce solution for WordPress, definitely take a listen to this episode. Disclaimer: This interview was not purchased or is sponsored in any way. Here are some of the questions we covered on the show: Why did you create Shopp when WP-Ecommerce was already available? Speaking of WP-Ecommerce, what […]
