WordPress, WordPress Plugins

Last week, we gave you two plugins to play with. And this week we’re back with yet another plugin. Way back in 2005, Mark released the Top 10 posts plugin that allowed you to track page views and display them on your blog post. You could also display a list of popular posts. With WordPress 2.7, a update was necessary and here it is. The Top 10 plugin for WordPress will track page views on single and post pages and store them safely in a table in the WordPress database. You can then display the count in your post automatically, or either manually. Features: Counts page views on single posts and pages Display the count on the single posts and pages Customize the text that can be displayed Display a list of popular posts by page count. The number can be customized. Clean uninstall if you choose to delete the […]

WordPress Weekly

On the evening of Tuesday, January 27th, I had the pleasure to converse with Michael Pick, an employee of Automattic and also the guy behind the newly launched WordPress.TV. WordPress.TV is a new website which aggregates all sorts of WordPress content in video form. The site has already made a name for itself by showcasing many of the videos from recent WordCamps. Here is just a sampling of what we discussed during the show. Here are some of the questions we covered on the show: What is the purpose of WordPress.TV? How did WordPress.TV reach fruition? Will WordPress.TV feature content created by people other than Automattic? What do you plan on doing with videos that seemingly disappear? Can someone suggest a video that is produced with a language other than English? If there were any plans to let the videos be downloadable or even a podcast? Are WordPress.tv videos released […]

Not that we do not hear enough of Ma.tt and his history with WordPress, but USA Today had a nice article on Matt, WordPress and his fans.  Mom says her son is so focused on WordPress, “Sometimes he forgets to eat and sleep. He’s a young man in a hurry. He never stops. I keep telling him to slow down.” Also of interest, via a review on Mashable, is of a service called Errorlytics. It is a 404 redirect service that lets a website owner track 404 page hits, transparently redirect 404 pages to other content within a blog and/or website and possibly increases pageviews and SEO. They have a custom WordPress plugin for the purpose and the service is free for one domain and 5 rules. Now is it worth it? I will never use it because I do not want to depend on another remotely hosted service for […]

Weekly Plugin Review, WordPress Plugins

If you’ve finally decided to start selling ads on your WordPress blog, you either signup for an advertising network like Google Adsense or sell ads directly on your own. 125 x 125 button advertising has become a rage with almost every blog / site selling advertisement. Out here at Weblog Tools Collection, we use OIO Publisher for this. However, if you’re not interested in purchasing the plugin, then WP125 is an excellent choice for the same. What is WP125? The plugin adds a new “Ads” menu to the WordPress admin, featuring submenus for tweaking display settings and adding and removing ads. It’s very customizable, allowing you plenty of options for displaying the ads. It can optionally track the number of times the ads are clicked. The best part is you don’t have to […]
