WordPress Post-Install Checklist Download squad produces a somewhat complete post install checklist and set of links to find help for a hosted WordPress install. I like simple and easy to follow instructions and the links to resources for WordPress newbies. I am disappointed that WeblogToolsCollection does not show up anywhere on that post (as a WordPress resource). While you are into checlists, check out Max’s WordPress Blog Maintenance Checklist

There has been a lot of changes at WeblogToolsCollection.com and we continue to try and make the blog as useful of a tool as possible with the least headaches. Here is some important news and some tidbits I would like to bring to everyones’ attention. Some of my regulars might have noticed that Ajay has been getting his feet quite wet recently on this blog. Ajay D’Souza has agreed to be an author on WeblogToolsCollection and will be concentrating on WordPress news, reviews and analysis of plugins, themes, hacks etc. I like his writing style and candor and really appreciate his openness and eagerness to learn. We have modified some of the news posting procedures and will continue to refine and change as requested and necessary. Ajay has been blogging since 2003 and currently runs http://ajaydsouza.com and http://techtites.com. You will find his WordPress plugins, themes, hacks and a regular glimpse […]

Persistent Spam floods have taken over again. I wish these people would quit since it is not only hurting my blog, it is also hurting their own purposes. If spammers realize that if they flood/kill their victims, they do not get the spam on the blog. It is a lose-lose situation. In addition to spam floods, Performancing has been having some serious problems with their servers (I read something about a server move) and that has been causing slowdowns and random problems. I have disabled both for the time being. I have a message in to Chris about the ad problems and I hope to hear back soon but the ads will stay off until things settle down. As for comments, they will remain turned off until the spammers decide to move on. There HAS to be a solution to stop comment floods. For those that have suggested Bad Behavior […]

WordPress, WordPress Hack, WordPress Plugins

PhotoQ is a WordPress plugin that makes your (or at least my) photoblogging life easier. It is most suited for “one photo a day”-style web pages i.e., classical photoblogs. In essence, PhotoQ allows you to manage your future posts in a queue. The plugin then gives you the possibility to have the top of the queue automatically posted at a given interval. PhotoQ also takes away the hassle of browsing uploaded image files and embedding them into posts: You simply upload your photo to the queue and enter desired information about the photo. PhotoQ then automatically generates the post based on this information. A Registration Blacklist allows the banning use of specific email addresses and domains from user registration. Reddit Button is a WordPress plugin that displays a reddit button in your posts. Includes the ability to autodetect if the post is submitted. Keyword Generator will scan your pages and […]

Blogging Essays, General

This is the Twenty Fifth entry in The Blogging Essay Contest from WeblogToolsCollection.com If you would like to participate, please email me your entry at mark at wltc dot net. Please rate this article using the star system below. The competition will be judged primarily on the input from readers like you. Thank you. This is written by Bes Zain Online users prefer sticking around sites which are written by people with clear intentions. Online users also like it when blog authors express things transparently. Being transparent on the web is vital for a site to succeed. When you are open to your users about yourself and your site, you will gain more trust from people visiting your site compared to if you made yourself and your site anonymous. You must practise and master the art of transparency in some area of your choice on your site if you want […]

WordPress, WordPress Plugins

WPAds is a WordPress plugin for showing and rotating ads in your blog. You only have to define the ad positions and the ads you want to rotate in each position, and WPAds will serve your ads randomly. Google + Alexia Page Rankings display Google and Alexia Page Rankings in your dashboard and optionally on your WordPress website. Registration Blacklist: Prevent registration and subsequent spam on your WordPress blog by preventing registration from blacklisted domains and email addresses. Although I am not sure that requiring registration for comments is such a hot idea, this plugin might be useful for those that have set that flag but are still facing spam problems or bogus registrations.
