It’s a question I’m sure everyone reading this post can answer and I’m willing to bet most of the answers are different. WPShout.com has compiled a list of answers from 21 notable people throughout the WordPress community to figure out why they choose to use WordPress. Here is my answer to the question: The reason I chose WordPress is the same reason I continue to publish content through the software and that is through ease of use. The publishing process in WordPress was simple when compared to Joomla or Drupal. The process is in a logical order and doesn’t provide 100 different things I should do before I actually hit the publish button. This process has been refined in the two years I’ve been using WordPress so it’s even better today! Later on in the comments, there is one by Ozh that I whole heartily agree with. Interesting to see […]

Just wanted to pass along another WordPress resource site to put in your bookmarks or RSS feed, especially if you’re Canadian called WordPress Canada. The site is managed by Len Kutchma, the same person who has been doing a great job providing feedback and even testing some of the themes being submitted to the New Theme release section of the WeblogToolsCollection forums. The site aims to bring you all the goodness happening throughout the world of WordPress albeit with a Canadian twist. If you feel like traveling a bit of Canada through WordPress news, be sure to check out Planet WordPress Canada which Len is a member of.

CMSWire in partnership with Water And Stone has released their 2009 Open Source CMS Market Share report. The report is free if you care to dive in and look at look at the results which were comprised of over 1,000 respondents. I don’t think anyone will be surprised to know that the top three systems represented in the survey are Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress. However, unlike last year, all three switched top metrics with Joomla taking the popularity prize. However, WordPress dominated the brand strength category. According to CMSWire, they think that having two projects with the same name contributed a large part to the branding strength of WordPress. WordPress.com the free hosting service enables users to get their feet wet encouraging them later on to take the plunge to self install WordPress. To veterans in the WordPress community, this branding is a nightmare but it’s obviously had a positive […]

This morning, I read a refreshing post by Justin Tadlock on his personal blog which does a wonderful job explaining the roles and capabilities system in WordPress. See, Justin is working on a fancy new plugin which will make creating new roles and assigning capabilities to those roles easy as 1-2-3. It’s a good thing to know how a system works before you tinker around with it. While I know there is a Codex article dedicated to roles and capabilities, the way Justin explained the system illuminated a number of light bulbs in my head. It all makes sense to me now and it doesn’t seem as overly complex as I originally thought. Please give the article a read for yourself and not only provide Justin with some feedback, but I’m wondering if his explanation helped anyone else?
