After running around like a chimpanzee with its head cut off (check out the animatronics chimp from WowWee, thus the similie) with the last WordPress Plugin Competition, I would like to be better prepared. We are about to embark upon another WordPress Programming Competition (notice the change in the name) starting at the beginning of December and lasting through the end of May next year. Much of the competition will remain the same but I would like to give authors the chance to strut their stuff and get their code together and published and advertised for everyone to make a good determination. However, this post is about the judges. If you would like to be considered as a judge, please send me an email with a list of stuff that makes you eligible. Mark the subject as “WordPress Programming Competition Judge”. Though the judges’ names will not be made public, […]

If you were ever thinking of running Chitika MiniMalls like the one showed in this post, use this referral to signup. (I do get some revenue from your referral). The ads were at an inopportune time for me and tended to produce about twice as much as Adsense in a given day over the small testing period I had setup. I might use them again in the future. Various different blog posts, sites and programs will help you tweak these ads to get the best results. Please understand that it is legal to run both Chitika Minimalls and Adsense on the same page as long as Chitika is set to be non-contenxtual. Link to signup for Chitika Minimalls

eBay Fraud

I saw a new kind of email scam for eBay that was amusing. I had someone email me the following… Hello, I am interested and will like to know the shipping from Chicago IL, handling and your form of payment!!! Thanks!!! and since I was not selling anything on eBay and fraud, internet, media and everything in between is my business, I was intrigued. Of course, the link pointed to some IP in france and not eBay but thats the boring part. Needless to say, ebay needs to find a new way to deliver messages to their customers, one that does not include logging in or sending information via email. How about including some sort of an “email secret” with every email? If that does not show up inside the message, it can easily be deemed to be invalid. PGP comes to mind, but judging from their track record and […]

Creating Passionate Users I have followed this blog for a while since I was introduced to it a while back (by who I do not remember). Graphics like the one below are their hallmark and a lot of what they say seems like common sense. Reminds me of a real life Dilbert of kinds.

The server move is done again and this time I hope to not fat finger anything. I did lose a large amount of traffic from Google and all my blogs and my revenue seems to have suffered tremendously from making this change. Here is to a lifetime of learning. In case people are wondering, I decided to get a 1and1 root server. It was at the best price point and there were features I really appreciate. Here is my affiliate link for 1and1. Thanks to everyone for being patient. PS: If you sign up for 1and1 through my affiliate link, it helps me with my hosting charges. 😉

Is webstats4u (formerly Nedstat) hurting your site? All traces of Nedstat and/or webstats4u have been removed from all of my sites. There are many reasons for this removal. The popups were just pure annoying The popups might be violating AdSense (and other ad package) policies in spite of the fact that the popups were not contextual. Though there is no empirical data to prove it, I have read in the past that popups might reduce Google traffic Though there is no empirical data to prove it, I know for a fact that a large percentage of web visitors hate popups 😉 I refuse to allow the kind of tactics that webstats4u has decided to employ There are way too many good online statistics packages (free ones) for anyone to continue using webstats4u In addition to the above, I would like to clear IceRocket of any wrongdoing. The popups were a […]

What is Web 2.0?

What is Web 2.0? Or more directedly, what does it mean to you? Is it a clever marketing ploy to sell more advertising and services than the market can really sustain? Is is another way to excite people into trying out new things on the web that previously would have gone unnoticed? I kind of go with the Dave Winer perspective of ” it’s simply a better version than the previous version”. Are you visiting the conference?

Simple PHP Gallery I don’t think the simplicity, ease of use and the absolute beauty of this software was quite obvious to me till tonight. I needed to put up about two hundred pictures in relative anonymity into a simple gallery that would not be a hassle to install. Al I have to say is….WOW. The install took all of twenty seconds, the gallery was up in another three seconds and all I did was move the pictures into the right folder and view the gallery page. From one developer to another, kudos to Paul Griffin! This is how software should be.

NEVER, EVER trust the lftp “mirror” command to uphold the newest files switch!! My server was hosed with last nights’ backup and we are back on the original server. Consequently we are missing a couple of posts and quite a few comments. The server will have to be re-imaged and I will have to restore everything from backup. Sorry for the inconvenience.
