[Continue Reading...]Technorati Link Count Widget Add a link count or a “Blog Reaction” link to your posts from Technorati. This gives you a way to display the number of links to your posts, as tracked by Technorati in real time. I had something like this in the past in the form of a plugin but it bit me back when Technorati was either slow to respond or was down for the count. You can see it at work on this blog but I believe that this will degrades better than the plugin I had. Installation is relatively simple, though not a drag and drop and requires some addition of code. I am not sure if there is a WordPress plugin out already for this. Here is the Technorati Blog post from Tantek. Michael suggest that this might even replace trackbacks for him in spite of the issues he mentions.
[Continue Reading...]Blurb your Blog into a Book: Suck your blog up into your computer and create a nicely formatted book with the contents of your blog including text, images, comments, and links. The final product is a professionally designed draft for a book that they charge to publish for you. The software to be downloaded is available for PC and Mac. Their pricing suggests that it is not cheap for older blogs. The only blogging services supported are Typepad and WordPress.com. You cannot create a book out of your hosted WordPress blog (yet, I think).
[Continue Reading...]pixer.us: online photo editor Upload your photo online and use this AJAX control panel to fix and modify your photos to your hearts’ content. The response is fast (for now). I modified one of our Jamaica pictures to test. I had some problem with the original (it looks like there are some logistic issues with the software not storing different pictures for different sessions). This might be really useful for bloggers that are editing their blogs or adding pictures where they do not have access to a good photo editor. The following picture was cropped, saturation tweaked, sharpened and randomly modified. 🙂
[Continue Reading...]Zamzar: Free online file conversion Convert files online from free. There are image file convertsions, document conversions (like Word, Excel etc), image conversions and video conversions. I personally would not do this for very sensitive files, but it might be useful in a fix or at remote locations where I do not have access to my desktop. Thanks Go2Web2
[Continue Reading...]Google Co-op – Custom Search Engine: Create your own customized search engine with Google. Google will even let you add your own AdSense code to make money from your searches. [EDIT] I had posted the search code on this post but decided against it. Visit the custom search engine I created here. More information and discussion all over the web, including the official Google Blog.
[Continue Reading...]Google Ping: Google introduces their pinging service for blogs that will notify Google of changes. I am surprised to see very little discussion for this service but am not surprised with the lack of fanfare or threats of switching. Ping-O-Matic does such an amazing job (amazing == you set it and forget it; well if you use WordPress you don’t even need to set it) that I can never see myself switching.
[Continue Reading...]Blog Juice Calculator Determine the “blog juice” for your blog using this tool from Text-Link-Ads and compare with various other blogs from the blogosphere. Juice is determined from your Bloglines subscription, Alexa rank, Technorati rank and inbound links in Technorati.
[Continue Reading...]WriteToMyBlog: This post has been written in WriteToMyBlog. It is a free word processor for your blog with TinyMCE like rich text editing features. There are still some annoyances and browser based bugs but if your blog editor is not as full of features, this might be an alternative. I am still not sure how this will post to my blog, but I am willing to give it a shot. Thanks LifeHacker [EDIT] Interesting, it actually goes through the whole posting process, asks for the blogging tool, the location, credentials etc. It then goes through and asks for the categories to choose from and posts the blog. You can even save your credentials and add other blogs for future use. I guess this could be an alternative way to post stuff to your blog but the concept is still lost to me. If I have access to the web, I […]
