Cliff Notes From the Blog World “I have 400 feeds, and reading those takes me four hours — and I was doing that every morning,” Arrington said. “Since Memeorandum, I use my feed reader significantly less.” I completely agree. The mish mash of live news from the technology world along with a good smattering of code and usability has made Memeorandum a favorite of mine. Now only if I could get WeblogToolsCollection to become one of the sites that Memeorandum caches and gets its news from. Anyone know how? 😉

McDonald’s Dips Toe In Blogging Waters Last week, the company began an internal program that introduced corporate blogs, available only on the corporate intranet, behind the firewall. While this is seen as a small first step, it’s an important one in a company the size of McDonald’s, said Steve Wilson, senior director of global Web communications for McDonalds. Wilson spoke to a crowd of bloggers and curious marketing folk at Monday’s BlogOn social media summit in New York.

Submit a splog All the hoopla about “Splogs” has people taking notice. In a perfect world, I love the idea of a “spam blog blacklist” but can you imagine the headache of maintaining one of these lists? The poisoning that could happen, the existance of innocent blog posts that are being used as splogs and the inherent danger for a blogger to use such a blacklist are enormous.

CNN Blog Producer Producer will cover web-logs (blogs), pod-casts, and other internet-based forms of new media. The web producer will locate, research, and report on blogs and web sites that include news, politics, policy, commentary, and other information of value to our viewers. The results will be daily television segments reporting on this area of the media. This person will be responsible for producing both the editorial content and also the graphic and video elements necessary to develop each segment. This person will also report on-air as needed. I wonder how long these “blogging bubble” jobs are going to last before they get absorbed into mainstream media positions. Thanks Blog Herald

Yahoo unveils blog search tool Is this an attempt to one up Google blog search or as Jeremy says, ( I can’t find the post right now) did Yahoo already have blog search in the works but was not timely enough to release it before Google? In any case, you judge the results. I personally think they still need a lot more data and more fine tuning and the results page make it look like Feedster (or does Feedster look like Yahoo?)

Macworld: The best blogging tools for the MacRight now, the blogging tools most popular with Mac users are TypePad and Movable Type, both from Six Apart; Blogspot and Blogger, from Blogger (now part of Google); and WordPress, an open-source tool. These five tools range in power and complexity from simple-but-limited (TypePad, Blogger, and Blogspot) to do-pretty-much-anything-but-may-require-coding (WordPress). Movable Type is somewhere between these two extremes. Thanks Google Alerts

MT-Blacklist and Comment Spam Clearinghouse Closed Jay chooses to close down the clearinghouse to protest ubiquitous and unscrupulous programmers hitting the blacklist more than they should have. My personal view on blacklists aside, thanks for all your work Jay. Thanks to Threadwatch for the news.

Can Bloggers Strike It Rich? When it comes to the profit potential of blogs, Nick Denton, founder of Gawker Media, calls himself a skeptic. Sceptic or clever businessman? I have nothing against Nick, but the more “professional bloggers” there are on the internet, the smaller the share becomes. Perhaps I’ve just experienced the Denton deflationary spin machine. 🙂
