WPBlacklist 2.9 Released

Well, WPBlacklist 2.9 with support for WP 1.5 is here πŸ™‚ The only new feature in this release is the addition of support for running trackbacks and pingbacks thorugh the blacklist. Unfortunately, this release probably will not work with WP 1.2 – I haven’t had the time to test it or to find a means of ensuring backward compatibility. It however does work pretty well against the new trackback spam :p You can download it from the WPBlacklist page

WPBlacklist 2.8 is out. What’s new? Basically, a few new features that people were missing – such as the ability to check comments already held for moderation (maybe because the comment already had too many links or because you moderate all comments) against the WPBlacklist blacklist :p Before this, people setting all comments to be moderated were out of luck if they wanted to use the auto-deletion feature of WPBlacklist since the plugin would either delete all comments held for moderation (if you checked the deleted comments held for moderation outside of WPBlacklist option) or simply hold everything and not check the comments against the blacklist. This has now been fixed. In addition to this, I’ve also added the option to harvest data for the blacklist from comments found via the search feature and made a few minor enhancements. One major bug fixed was the inclusion of code to check […]

WPBlacklist 2.6 released

WPBlacklist 2.5 was doing so well on catching comment spam and deleting it, that I wanted to improve upon it by adding the ability to harvest spammer details from automatically deleted comments so that the blacklist would continue to improve. This was the main feature addition to this new release though there are a couple of other changes and a bug fix included in there. You can download the new version here and read a detailed description of all the new changes here.

WPBlacklist 2.5 released :)

I guess I shouldn’t have been in such a big hurry to post about WPBlacklist 2.01 in the previous post because 2.5 is ready and has been just released :p The new release adds automatic deletion of comments marked as spam and allows you to select which items are automatically deleted. Not only that, if you select the option, the new plugin will also e-mail you with full details of the automatically deleted comments. A full description of the new features can be read in this blog entry and you can download the new release from here. If you install the new release, be sure to read the included readme.txt file to find out how to upgrade or at least run the Installer link under the plugin description on the Plugins tab of your WP control panel after you install the plugin. The installer has to be run even for […]

Weblog Add-Ons

The recently released WPBlacklist 2.0 version had a few bugs which made the plugin work quirkily or worse yet, present the user with a stream of error messages when they tried to post a comment after certain URLs had been harvested by the new mass-deletion facility. So, I’ve released WPBlacklist 2.01 to fix these problems. You can download it from here. In the meantime, I’m working on WPBlacklist 2.5 which will allow auto-deletion of spam comments and an e-mail notification facility for comments which are automatically deleted. Hopefully, I should be able to release 2.5 in a day or two πŸ™‚

Weblog Add-Ons

When I wrote WPBlacklist 1.2, I was aware of one problem – the fact that if you had URL with a folder path, the blacklist plugin threw up a whole bunch of errors because the URL screwed up the regular experssion matching. I did a temporary fix for that in the initial version because I couldn’t think of a way to fix this for all such instances. The fix involved modifying any known URL in the blacklist which could cause this problem. Unfortunately, a new URL was added to the blacklist a couple of days ago which causes this problem and I realized that I should come up with a permanent fix which would handle all such URLs in the future. After some tinkering and lots of testing, I’ve finally got WPBlacklist 1.21. This release has only one change – the addition of code to create a regex safe URL […]

b2evo Importer Script

I’ve created a trial script to import b2evo blogs to WP. The script seemed to work fine on my test installation on b2evo but since I don’t have a live installation of b2evo, the test was just that – a test πŸ™‚ While the script does seem to allow importing a specific blog, don’t be fooled by appearances – that is just in case the feature is needed in the future :p Currently, all entries and all categories are imported to WP since I was too lazy to figure out the logic for importing just one blog since b2evo has a category based individual blog system. Anybody interested in the script can get it from here.

WP Blacklist 1.2 Released

The WP Blacklist hack has been updated to a plugin to work with WP 1.2 and has also had a few new features added such as the ability to ban IPs and the option to directly import entries directly from Jay Allen’s centralized blacklist. Actually, the latter feature was already there but this release fixes some regex incompatibilities between Jay Allen’s list and PHP. You can download the plugin here.
