WordPress Plugin Competition Deadline

1
response

I had previosly made a comment that the competition would end at the end of May, and I was off by a couple of weeks. I would like to clarify my dates. The WordPress Plugin and Mod Competition will end on the 15th of June, exactly two months after it started. All entries will have to be posted by then and I will provide instructions for submission very soon. A question was raised about the “mods” part of the competition and what the limitations were. As long as your “mod” has used WordPress as the core, it is eligible to be entered into the competition. If anything is unclear about the competition or I have messed up on something (like the dates) please leave me a comment and I will respond as soon as I can.

Judging the response from community well wishers, I feel very strongly about the competition and I think I would like to hold this bi-annually. Give developers a good chunk of six months to write their code and then reward their outstanding work with recognition and some prizes. If we decide to follow that schedule, we could start a new competition at the end of this one (say in June) and let it carry over till the end of the year. The pluginblog and pluginwiki could become permanent as a place for plugin developers to get instant recognition by a very interested audience and it could also become the launching pad for sponsors and clients looking to advertise with this audience. Prizes for the competition would be the only weakness of this plan. In that respect I would like to invite ideas and offers from the community. The other weakness of […]

Plugin Help: Owen has some very, very good advice (heartfelt suggestions from an honest and accomplished WordPress guru at that) for plugin developers who are Plugin Competition hopefuls. I personally had no idea that there were secret conversations going on and am delighted to know that people are paying attention to the competition. In plugin competition news, we now have enough money to buy the Sony PSP after all (short a score or so plus shipping, which I will gladly contribute). So, my promise to honor the “Best of Show” with a Sony PSP still stands and I will ship it to the winner directly from the place of purchase. In other words, I will wait to purchase it till the end of the competition. A question for everyone. What are your thoughts on extending the competition for a few more weeks to let some more plugin authors get their […]

Have you checked out the WordPress Plugin Competition lately? We have over 17 authors already entered in the competition, many with more than one plugin and the announcements continue to flood in! We have large cash prizes, a Sony PSP, Flickr Pro account and much else on the line. There are at least ten different “Developer Wanted” requests on the blog and many, many visits everyday. So if you are a developer and have not regsitered/started writing a plugin, go and check out the blog and the wiki. You might find something you are interested in or would like to write. The Weblogs.us prize is HUGE (and so are the others) and there aren’t any explicit entries in that category yet. What are you waiting for? 🙂 If you are a wellwisher or a blog publisher or are in the business of web design/hosting/blogs, have you gotten you donation in? […]

How much time do you spend blogging?

How many hours a day do you spend blogging? I mean to ask for the whole experience. How many hours total do you spend reading blogs, reading posts, emails, lists, news and such about blogging every day? How does that time break up? I personally spend anywhere between a half hour all the way upto 16 hours a day blogging, with the average being between 3 to 4 hours. The time is spent equally divided between checking news, checking stats, answering/reading emails and lists, coding, analyzing issues and questions and general zoning at the screen. How does your blogging day pan out?

General, Photolog Script

Album Journal: I have been working with photo blogging, photo albums and online photo repositories for sometime and I had thought that Flickr was the closest thing to a perfect photo app. I might have been wrong. After looking through this “Album Journal” I think this would be cool. I like the interface and the organization of the albums. I really like the idea of being able to record entries per photo and per album and then display them as such. Not everyone has a bunch of pictures to post in an album everyday but when you do, it would be of tremendous aesthetic value to be able to annotate each one with a blog post of sorts. I know that all of this is achievable with Gallery, Flickr and the like but somehow they all lack the fluidity and the coherence of the album journal above. I would like […]

WordPress Messaging Plugin Idea

If you are looking for a cool plugin to write, I believe that it would be really useful to be able to message inside the WordPress admin pages. I have multiple authors and I would like to leave them messages which they would see when they log in and be able to leave comments/critiques on drafts and even as a QOTD or an MOTD for all users of the blog. This idea could be further expanded to share messages within a certain peer group of blogs. If you have my PeerID, you could receive and read internal messages from my blog that were added to your username on my blog. This should be relatively easy to do if login names remain the same across blogs. I imagine that I would log onto my dashboard to see all the messages/comments that people have left for my login on all the blogs […]

Everyone does know that the plugin competition is underway …. right? Shame on me for not mentioning it here, but the WordPress Plugin and Mod Competition officially started on April 15th and has been gathering steam. Some good plugins have been submitted and plugin authors have been very responsive! There are a couple of requests for plugins on that blog and people have been visiting the wiki to get more information and to add their names to the list. If you are a plugin developer, sign up and sign in on PluginBlog to request plugin ideas, beta test requests or to just announce a plugin. Thank you to everyone that is participating and everyone that is helping. In spite of a good response from developers, we still need more participants and more plugins. There is a lot of money, praise and appreciation to be won! If you know of someone […]
