WordPress.com Launches Theme Showcase

The talented folks at WordPress.com have just launched their official Theme Showcase! Previously, the only way to browse through the over a hundred available themes at WordPress.com was to open a free blog and start looking through the Appearance section of the Dashboard.  Now, current users and potential users are treated to an in-depth theme showcase featuring large screenshots, specifications, recommended uses, and examples of other WordPress.com blogs pushing the limits of the themes. Though the showcase is specific to WordPress.com, most of the listed themes can be found for self-hosted WordPress blogs in the official Theme Directory. What do you think of the new Theme Showcase?

The Most Reliable Blogging Services

Pingdom, a popular website monitoring service, performed a two month experiment to find the most reliable blogging services. From October 15th to December 15th, Pingdom ran a variety of checks every minute from multiple locations around the world on the homepage and four individual blogs from each blogging service. In the end, WordPress.com came out as #2, just behind Blogger, which should be the expected winner since it’s backed by the entire Google network.

WordPress 3.1 Beta 2 Released

The second beta of WordPress 3.1 has been released for your testing enjoyment. As before, you should probably avoid using this on a live site, and make sure to backup your files and database before upgrading. There are still a few known issues, but if you find any more, please feel free to discuss them with the wp-testers mailing list. If you’re a plugin or theme developer, please test them for compatibility, as the final release of 3.1 is not too far away. Have you tried the WordPress 3.1 Beta yet? What do you think so far?

So, you’ve just moved your WordPress blog following the official instructions, but what about all of your internal links and images? Even though you may have changed your main URL during the move process, your internal links and images will remain unchanged, leaving images broken and internal links pointing toward the old domain or directory.
