WordPress 2.8 just crossed the 1 million download mark today, you can see the live counter for WordPress downloads on the download counter page.
This is definitely great news since this milestone was reached in 12 days, have you upgraded to WordPress 2.8 yet?
Here is a screenshot when WordPress 2.8 hit the 1 million download mark, thanks to @scoutdude.
Thanks @photomatt via twitter. Follow us @weblogtooltips.
Congrats. WordPress, let’s see if 2.9 can get 2.5 million in such a short period! This is good news for self-hosted WordPress developers. I wonder how long Joomla and Drupal will have to wait to get the same downloads for their new version releases! 😛
Ain’t pretty with so many toolbars.
Do you know if auto-upgrades count in that total?
It does.
Wow!
+1,000,000 – that’s a lot of downloads. I’m sure it will continue to get even bigger as the months go by as more and more people are using WP.
I got the 500,000 and 1,000,000 screenshots. technically each +2 but was closest, for 2.7
Matt should give some WordPress shwag to people who get the closest to half or a full million…….screenshot.
Does anyone know how to get the final number for 2.7? and every other 2.x and 1.x (have no idea when the counter started counting).
Very easy to fake. 😉
For reference, it took nearly 8 months for WordPress 2.0.x to hit 1 million downloads.
Wooow. Amazing
I just love how the community keeps growing and growing, congrats to WordPress
Two reasons for this. 1) WordPress is just awesome! 2) autoupdate feature is awesome!
Kudos!!
Yes. It is amazing that with so many sites broken due to this latest version, it’s getting those kinds of numbers and we’re encouraging people to continue downloading it. Unbelievable.
Maybe it’s really only 500,000 and everyone had to download a second time to repair the first one? 😉
Congrats WordPress, great community and (generally) great product.
+1 Danny. My first 2.8 install rendered me useless. Thank goodness my databases were backed up. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world (hear that? it’s posterous footsteps).
Broken?
A simple subversion checkout had everything work just fine for me. It was updated within a minute or two. I then clicked the “update the database” button on the web interface, waited a few seconds, and everything was fine.
The auto-update and installation for themes, plugins, etc. didn’t work on my host with 2.7.x, but works just fine with 2.8.
In short, the update process has been seamless for me.
I was running 2.7.1, updated to 2.8, without any troubles.
In 2.8 there are some bugs with my thesis theme, when it comes to posting links in my blog.
So, I’m back to 2.7.1, and waiting for when the 2.8.1 is out of beta 😉
I’m only developing a local site using XAMPP and WordPress 2.8 but I’ve had all sorts of problems with the dashboard.
From looking at the various forums, lots of people are having the same problems.
If it wasn’t such a great product, and free…. I would have given up by now and tried something elase.
Still, congratulations on reaching such a monumental milestone.
im using 2.8 at the moment, 1 million times in 12days, that’s like 1 time per min?
Wow WordPress has definitely grown over the years and 1 million downloads in 12 days is pretty impressive for blogging software. It seems as if WordPress is the premier blogging software.
