9 WordPress admin themes: There aren’t a lot of developers and designers working on admin themes for WordPress and I was really pleasantly surprised to find this list on welovewp.com. This posts lists nine themes for the administration back end of WordPress. Some of them I had seen before such as Tiger and Spotmilk, but there were a few that were new to me. Josh (I am assuming that Josh wrote the above post, this is why an about page is so important and posts should list authors) has included thumbnails and small reviews for each of them.
- WP Tiger
- Spotmilk
- JS Spotmilk
- Planet X7
- afd WordPress2
- WordPress NiceAdmin
- WordTunes2
- Shuttle
- Digg
- Barunio
Unfortunately, two of the admin themes, Digg and WordTunes2 are MIA but I did manage to dig up one more that should be mentioned. If I missed a couple, please leave a comment and I will add it to the list.
Interesting that a few out there have actually developed Admin themes. Why aren’t there as many admin themes as there are regular themes?
I want to see the digg theme. waaaaaaaaah
There used to be one called Earthtones, but it looks like it’s MIA.
Shuttle was never finished, so you can´t download it, I think you should remove the link because is worthless.
Almost all of them are to old and maybe not compatible with WP 2.1.3, but they are cool at the end.
Bummer that Shuttle was never finished. It’s exactly what I want.
Nice list – I never knew that you could skin the admin page. You learn something new every day.
shuttle are so cool! n i am waiting for it
I just looked at the shuttle project and it looks absolutely fantastic. I hope it will be integrated in one of the next releases of WordPress.
excuse my ignorance, but what is MIA?
@cristiano: MIA means Missing In Action 🙂
cristiano: MIA = Missing In Action
Nice! These themes will come in handy.
So there’s a lot wp-admin themes, all I know is wp-tiger.
I’ve always preferred the default admin theme. It works, and that’s all I ask of my backend. I’ll leave the prettifying for the actual site.
I pretty much feel the same way Cody, but I have to admit, the Shuttle theme looked nice.
I am using Earthtones and have a copy. I like it.
I like using the different admin themes across my 3 blogs as it helps to remind me which one I’m writing for!
New admin theme? I’ll wait for WordPress 2.4!!!
Great List, thanks.
thanks for the listing mark
its been a pain to edit the default admin.css when i want to make
the theme backend blend with my upcoming new theme..
the write post section boxjs always..ugh..error
this definately help for reference:)
The WP- Tiger looks sooo lush, shame no support for IE7 though 🙁
Shuttle eventually turned into the WP 2.0 admin theme basically. It’s old as hell – pre-1.5.
I’ve featured the Tiger Admin, Spotmilk, Nice Admin and WordTunes in my blog and named it the Pimp My Dashboard series. Thanks for sharing this as I’ve found out about new ones like the Planet X7 and afd which I plan to feature later. I’ve tried the Barunio once but it didn’t work so I wasn’t able to blog about it. I’ll probably try it again.
Btw, I also blogged about the Digg admin theme and how it was stolen by someone. The author’s site is up but not running right now so it might be a while before we see it released to the public. As for the Shuttle, many WordPress users have been waiting for it but it seems like it’s never gonna happen.
Again, thanks for sharing! 🙂
Whoa, thanks for the list, I didn’t know it’s customisable
Stumbled!
Thanks for lists. I like it.
Amazing what a difference the use of a sans serif face makes! Everything seems so clean looking.
I did a post about admin themes some months back:

Hey Mark, thanks for linking to the article I wrote on welovewp.com, we have updated the post with a download link to Wordtunes admin theme.
Tiger is really sweet!! I’m gonna install it right away!!
thanks for answer my question (about MIA). sorry this delay.
The link to Spotmilk doesn’t appear to work… not just the page, but the entire ceprix.net domain appears to be down. Could be a temporary outage, not sure. Anyway, I was also among those who did not know the Admin side could be skinned — and it desperately needs to be! My only fear is what happens when WP comes out with another upgrade, and these themes suddenly no longer work. Yet one more thing you’re stuck going in and “deactiviating” before you can begin the WP upgrade.
Thanks for this info!
WordPress: v2.3.2
MySQL: v5.0.45-community-nt
PHP: v4.4.7
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0

The above have a problem in that they either do not change the interface or do not accommodate large submenus or have a design issue.
Regards.
Tiger is a good admin theme but it is slightly iffy with the most recent versions of wordpress, mainly a styling issue that can be overlooked but it was enough to eventually force me back to the default. I’d love to see it get another update.
Hi all! Thanks for the great support. I updated the plugin. Now it works regularly with WordPress 2.3. Check it now
Never really considered an admin theme before, do these still work well with current versions of wordpress?
Thanks for the link. Really helpful. I’d downloaded flavor. One of the best wp- admin theme.
Like the JS Spotmilk a lot.
I’m using it and very enjoyable.
what about the fluency admin panel? .. i use it and love it1
Hi
There is a plugin issue with Faq Tastic. The Faq Tastic admin menus don’t show when Fluency is enabled. Love the plugin though however I can’t use it full time while I update FAQ’s.
sana
*WP Tiger is a dead link.
*Spotmilk is no longer there. the domain is now a parked advert page.
*Shuttle is not available. It’s only a PSD of what it was meant to be. The plugin was abandoned.
*Barunio is no longer available. the screen shots and download link no longer work.
As for the other ones, the downloads are still there, but are outdated. They are all for WP 2.1 – 2.5
Seems like most themes no longer work, were never available or were just a psd. Any new admin theme plugins out there?
