How many hours a day do you spend blogging? I mean to ask for the whole experience. How many hours total do you spend reading blogs, reading posts, emails, lists, news and such about blogging every day? How does that time break up?

I personally spend anywhere between a half hour all the way upto 16 hours a day blogging, with the average being between 3 to 4 hours. The time is spent equally divided between checking news, checking stats, answering/reading emails and lists, coding, analyzing issues and questions and general zoning at the screen.

How does your blogging day pan out?

  1. Maybe 2 hours, but I spend way more time coding 😉

  2. theMike says:

3-4 hours per day as well, mostly spent reading. Usually I reserve the first hour of my day for my own site.

  3. For me, it’s a harder question because I fit into a somewhat unique category: people who blog for a living. I started blogging as hobby, and my personal blogging got me noticed by a company I now work for as Blogmaster. (Yes, my actual title.) So reading blogs, writing for blogs, managing blogs, etc., is part of my job. Between work blogging and personal blogging, I easily approach 8 hours a day, if not more.

Read blogs is what I first do in the morning, similar to the people who like to read newspapers, usually it takes around 1 hour. Then, during the day, I can do the same maybe 3 or 4 times, they won’t take as much time but I also spend a little bit tweaking my WP installation, handwritting future posts, answering email and spreading the word. Certainly it’s a lot of time each day.

I think I spend about the same about of time as you do Mark. Anywhere from 30 minutes to 10 hours, but I’d say an accurate average would be 2-5 hours a day.

I spend varying amounts of time on my blog as well. Some posts take alot of research, others are more quick finds I think worthy of sharing. I do read the other blogs and online news sources before I start, sometimes choosing to join in but other times finding something different to write about. I’d have to say I also average in the 2 to 5 hours a day which would include research.

  7. The BlogMaster – coming soon to a comic near you.

  8. Usually 2-3 solid hours per week. That doesn’t count the miscellaneous websites that I blog about using the “Press It” function in WordPress.

  9. Chris Vaughn says:

Probably about an hour a day. I set one up years back, and then let it go… did it again let it die; now I’m blogging with a vengenance. Setting it up, and tweaking the hound out of my site – which I still hate the look, but don’t have about 12 hours to code it myself to my anal retentive, obsessive compulsive tastes.; but such is life.

Too much. I try to make a post every day, sometimes two, and spend a good deal of time writing some of them…I don’t know how much time I spend reading other people’s. Today was even worse in the sense that WordPress is throwing a FIT at me, deleting my entire stylesheet whenever I try to edit it, and the sidebar is apparently invisible under certain conditions…probably not as much as five hours a day as some of the other commenters (5 hours!?) do, but too much time for my own good. =p

  11. bre says:

I go from 1-6 hours a day, but I think I average about 2 and 1/2. I take notes on my experiences seeing art pretty regularly and about half of those notes make the cut to the blog.

  12. I have about 10 – 15 blogs I read each day.

I normally post 2-3 posts a day on my own blog.

I spend A LOT of time themeing.

So add that all up, average it out, 4-5 hours a day.

  13. Mr. Dew says:

I spend about an hour a day

  14. bingu says:

    I am not sure .
    maybe 4 hour~

  15. It depends on for what category I am currently writing. Reviews of things like music/books/etc. can take only an hour for me, with research, but deeply-important political, societal, and religious and/or scientific write-ups can take me up to three, give or take a little, depending on the research involved. 🙂

  16. neuro says:

When I’m jobless, I spend about 2-3 hours a day writing, otherwise 1 hour.
And I spend about 1 hours reading too.

  17. Darren says:

    6-10 hours per day – 7 days a week.

  18. Eric says:

How do you show related posts and how is that determined? Posts with the same categories?

  19. inky says:

between 0-3 hours a day… the average is probably 1. unless i’m redesigning my site (which i’ve done three times in the past year and a half) or coding a script… then it can be 8 hours, since i like to get that kind of stuff done in one go.

  20. Tom says:

    Not enough.

  21. I only spend about 2- 4 hours a day blogging. I found myself spending 10 to 12 hours on the computer doing whatever. Blogging has actually saved me a lot of time. I incorporated all of my websites into one site. I’m an author and I had a website for every one of my book titles and anything else I could think of. I also write short stories, so I had a short stories website. With the power of blogging software, I save hours out of a day the blogging software has saved me time and made my life much easier. Thank God for Blogs!

  22. Terry says:

Probably 2 – 3 hours a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I try to post on my blog at least once a day, but usually do more than that. Most of my time is spent keeping tabs on other blogs that are industry related as well as personal interests. What I do need to spend more time on though is blog design! lol

  23. Jerome says:

I’m not doing it for a living (not yet…) but I spent at least 6-8 hours a day blogging…
I read a lot to find subjects for my own blog and I try to post something interesting 2 or 3 times a day.

  24. Simon says:

Since i have begun to get really involved with blogging (ive had a blog since 2002 and only recently began to use it), ive been spending upto 10 hours a day on it. If I find something that is interesting to me I will blog about it, I will also blog about daily happenings as well as blogging about other blogs… all in all ive managed to have an average article per day at about 4 or 5 posts a day 😮

  25. renee says:

Ive been up to 17 hours, at the most, but this was because I had so much complications and had to email my server about 12 emails. Sign. I go to school, so if I have holidays and have nothing to do, I can easily stay on for 12 hours. yes I have no life

  26. Rishona says:

I spend more time reading other blogs than on my own. I often blog when I get some slow time in the day (so it’s sporadic). My guess would be 3-4 hours a day on average.

  1. Writing a blog

For some days now I have found blogging not too easy and thought I could compose an entry on my “difficulties”:
At first I thought that I am just an “average writer” as described by Chetan: someone whom words fail sometimes (especially in my case…
