Automattic Has Acquired IntenseDebate’s Enhanced Comment System: Automattic has acquired IntenseDebate for an undisclosed amount according to TechCrunch and this post on the IntenseDate blog. They are planning to delve into a closed beta once again while they ramp up their hardware for an onslaught of new users from Automattic. Plans include a tight integeration with WordPress (I am assuming with WordPress.com initially and maybe as a plugin for WordPress.org, thus the need for ramping up resources) but will continue to exist as a separate service and will be available for other platforms beside WordPress. Expect more news on this front very soon. Matt and Toni also talk about the acquisition.
Congrats to both companies, sounds like a great match. I’m surprised that I’ve never of IntenseDebate before. After poking around their site, it sounds like a really cool solution.
Well, I certainly didn’t see this coming. CoComment and Disqus always seem to take the limelight away from IntenseDebate but boy, this ought to be interesting to see how the commenting system looks after ID integration.
after reading Matt’s post, I checked IntenseDebate website … looks promising 🙂 … but, do we really need threaded commenting ? are they going to make it default ? 🙁
Actually, threaded commenting is already in the latest 2.7 trunk code for WordPress, without the IntenseDebate stuff. I figure it’ll stay in plugin territory for a good while.
Simple wordpress blogs have very poor commenting systems and then I came to know about disquss. I was really impressed with that. I am not familiar with this new commenting system and I have never seen this on any wordpress blog till now. I have checked their site and it looks very good. I shall implement on few of my blogs for a trial.
Well time to check how they are going around together
