9 WordPress admin themes: There aren’t a lot of developers and designers working on admin themes for WordPress and I was really pleasantly surprised to find this list on welovewp.com. This posts lists nine themes for the administration back end of WordPress. Some of them I had seen before such as Tiger and Spotmilk, but there were a few that were new to me. Josh (I am assuming that Josh wrote the above post, this is why an about page is so important and posts should list authors) has included thumbnails and small reviews for each of them.

Unfortunately, two of the admin themes, Digg and WordTunes2 are MIA but I did manage to dig up one more that should be mentioned. If I missed a couple, please leave a comment and I will add it to the list.

  1. Interesting that a few out there have actually developed Admin themes. Why aren’t there as many admin themes as there are regular themes?

  2. I want to see the digg theme. waaaaaaaaah

  3. There used to be one called Earthtones, but it looks like it’s MIA.

  4. Shuttle was never finished, so you can´t download it, I think you should remove the link because is worthless.

Almost all of them are to old and maybe not compatible with WP 2.1.3, but they are cool at the end.

  5. Bummer that Shuttle was never finished. It’s exactly what I want.

  15. I’ve always preferred the default admin theme. It works, and that’s all I ask of my backend. I’ll leave the prettifying for the actual site.

  29. I’ve featured the Tiger Admin, Spotmilk, Nice Admin and WordTunes in my blog and named it the Pimp My Dashboard series. Thanks for sharing this as I’ve found out about new ones like the Planet X7 and afd which I plan to feature later. I’ve tried the Barunio once but it didn’t work so I wasn’t able to blog about it. I’ll probably try it again.

Btw, I also blogged about the Digg admin theme and how it was stolen by someone. The author’s site is up but not running right now so it might be a while before we see it released to the public. As for the Shuttle, many WordPress users have been waiting for it but it seems like it’s never gonna happen.

    Again, thanks for sharing! :)

  44. The link to Spotmilk doesn’t appear to work… not just the page, but the entire ceprix.net domain appears to be down. Could be a temporary outage, not sure. Anyway, I was also among those who did not know the Admin side could be skinned — and it desperately needs to be! My only fear is what happens when WP comes out with another upgrade, and these themes suddenly no longer work. Yet one more thing you’re stuck going in and “deactiviating” before you can begin the WP upgrade.

The above have a problem in that they either do not change the interface or do not accommodate large submenus or have a design issue.

  52. Tiger is a good admin theme but it is slightly iffy with the most recent versions of wordpress, mainly a styling issue that can be overlooked but it was enough to eventually force me back to the default. I’d love to see it get another update.
