Excel Formulas: I use Excel almost everyday to produce numbers for the higher ups and the innovation of Excel programmers never ceases to amaze me. Here is a formula to count the total number of times a certain character shows up in a string. High level programming has me so caught up in functions that this simple trick evaded me completely. Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar Beta: Finally!! I have used the Firefox Developers toolbar forever and could not imagine a day without it. I am just installing the IE toolbar as I write this. Since most of my professional work is destined for IE users, this can be quite the boon. I will post my thoughts on this after I have driven it around and kicked the tires for a couple of days. Windows “Live” Software Lots of news coming out this morning from Microsoft press conferences and demo’s. Very mixed reactions ranging from “this sucks” to “this might be cool enough to watch very closely”. You judge for yourself. This is the link to the “Live Ideas” page from Microsoft. Lots of AJAX, does not work well with Firefox (yet?).

BloxPress – a modular ajax wordpress theme: Found this one quite by accident. Bloxpress starts out being an AJAXified WordPress theme but promises to extend much futher with extra themes, widgets and the like. I really like the moveable menu items. However, AJAX scares me to some extent.

Forbes Magazine goes after Bloggers No target is too mighty, or too obscure, for this new and virulent strain of oratory. Microsoft has been hammered by bloggers; so have CBS, CNN and ABC News, two research boutiques that criticized IBM’s Notes software, the maker of Kryptonite bike locks, a Virginia congressman outed as a homosexual and dozens of other victims–even a right-wing blogger who dared defend a blog-mob scapegoat.
