Get Ready For Newsvine… Newsvine is a large-scale news media site which gives you almost all the same stories you read on sites like MSNBC and CNN but presents them in a much more attractive package. Attractive not just in looks but in function as well. They are employing five people to develop something like Memeorandom but on a larger (?) scale. How do these sites make any money to sustain themselves? Looks like Memeorandum does not have ads, just a donate to the Salvation Army logo. I wonder if newsvine would be different.

Feedburner Launches Ad Network Following the likes of the highly successful Google AdSense networks and the recent small fish Chitika, Feedburner has Launched their own sd network for Feedburner feeds. If you look through their Publisher Services page and into their “Monetize” section, they tout both Google Adsense and their own network (Which does not have a catchy name, I think it should. A catchy brand name would make it more pallatable and easier to assimilate. Adz-n-Such just does not cut it) Some big names such as Gawker networks, CIO, BuzzMachine etc have signed on. Opinion: Is open source a bubble ready to burst?: Some fear the spike in open source investment is a sign that it might be a bubble about to burst; others say it backs up the model’s fundamental viability Do people really still think that open Source is not a viable business model? People make money from Open Source, more so now than ever in the history of computing. The Open Source business model, under a good business administrator, can make money. I think what people tend to forget is that any business can fail if not tended to properly and if led by a weak and/or wavering administrator. The fact that more people are investing in and participating in businesses guided by Open Source ideals means that more people will fail and more people will lose money in the process. Just pure numbers, not the bursting of a bubble.

WP Theme: Squible by Theron Parlin and James Carppe. Inspirational is the adjective I would use to describe it. Squible is a one column, modular, highly usable theme for WordPress. It is tag centric, media friendly, tweaked to make it easy to follow a bloggers’ train of thought and quite powerful as a publishing front end combined with WordPress. There are some weaknesses, and energy could be arranged better (to suit me) on the screen real estate but those are just nit picks. Worth the click-through inspiration. PS: Since this has been around for a while, not sure how I missed it.

It’s been quite some time since we have reported back about Top100bloggers.com, but we’ve been really busy with the community. The community recently upgraded the site to a new and feature-rich application. With that upgrade came along a new design as well. Top100Bloggers.com has seen an exponentially amazing growth in the recent months. We have seen the community jump from only 100 members to currently over 700 members. We see new members signing up everyday, which is very encouraging to us as community builder. We, as the Top100Bloggers.com staff, are here to support the users and server the community as best as possible. We are always eager to receive feedback and hear about cool events going on in bloggers’ lives. Web Logs (sic) go to school As a middle-school teacher, Clarence Fisher is used to spending some time each evening grading papers and reviewing lesson plans. But this year he’s got an additional after-school task: updating his students’ blogs. Weird. He updates their blogs? However, jokes aside, read through the class blog and that of hise students. I like the anonymity (especially with all the attention) and the candid feel is just either very well produced or just pure blogging karma. You judge. I still stand by my assertion that blogs can be an incredibly potent teaching tool.
