WordPress 2.3 en Español: Alex has translated WordPress 2.3 into Spanish. Though a few more bugfixes might go into WordPress Beta 3, I believe it is mature enough that there will be few mismatches with the translation. Go grab the .mo file from Alex’s blog and follow his instructions to setup WordPress in Spanish. In related suggestions, have you upgraded to WordPress 2.2.3 yet

Cool Scripts, LinkyLoo, WordPress

Managing Spam Maintenance with Akismet Auntie Spam Version 2: engtech has updated his “Akismet Auntie Spam” greasemonkey script. This new version has some nice improvements including collation of spam from the same IPs, grouping by sender, better usability and quite a few other slick new features. If a lot of spam gets caught in your Akismet plugin and you need to run through them quickly to weed out false positives, this script is the ticket. I have been using it since the original beta and I like it.

There is a conference in London called The Future of Web Apps. It takes place October 3rd – 5th. There are lots of speakers and Matt is one. So, seeing as he’s here, want to meet up? The venue will be Excel London. They have bars we can use, their site lists travel links and if there are others at the conference they would be close by. Date will be October 4th, maybe October 5th too. Interested? (cross-posted from my blog because more people read this! I’ll followup any other details on my post there.)

WordCamp 2007 starts today (well, there were some festivities yesterday) and since I have to miss it again this year, I hope some visitors record the presentations and provide podcasts for the rest of us. The speakers list includes some pretty cool people that I would have liked to listen to and meet but C’est la Vie. I hear there is going to be some cool schwag as well. If you are at Wordcamp, did you hear or see anything cool? Are you having a good time? Please contact me with reports if you think they are bloggable. Just a word of warning, I am on the road, so response/posting will be slow.

iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme by ContentRobot: The iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme automatically reformats your blog’s content for optimized viewing on Apple’s iPhone. It detects the iPhone’s User Agent and serves up the content with the special theme only to iPhone visitors, all other browsers will view your WordPress blog with your current theme. Delish! A classmate of mine is an AT&T regional manager and has an iPhone. I will be checking out WeblogToolsCollection.com in <sarcasm>glorious EDGE speeds</sarcasm> tomorrow! 🙂

Blogging, WordPress, WordPress Plugins

Index of /wp-content/plugins – Google Search: I am not sure what to make of this search but not only are there a lot of self hosted WordPress blogs, too many of them allow their plugin folder to be indexed. I performed this search because I noticed a crawler on a couple of my blogs that was indexing my plugins and that alarmed me a little. I do not allow my plugin folder to be indexed since I consider that too risky. The homepage of the crawler lists various plugins and their propensity in the WordPress Blogosphere. I imagine the crawler browses the plugins folder of each new blog discovered and if that folder can be browsed, it tries to crawl the various plugin php files it is aware of while looking for 404s and empty strings. I stop short of suggesting that everyone protect their plugins folder because if the […]
