Akismet has protected your site from 2,000,396 spam comments. WeblogToolsCollection.com also reached the 10,000 comments milestone a couple of weeks ago. So, for comparison’s sake, at present there are 10,577 comments on this blog. Huzzah! [EDIT] I forgot to ask, how is Akismet treating you?

aideRSS is a feed filtering and classification system that was recently showcased on Read/WriteWeb. As usual, the RW writeup is in depth and the insights and the research are useful in understanding the purpose and the use of aideRSS. aideRSS uses a proprietary “PostRank” algorithm to categorize and rank the posts on a certain blog and gives a reader the ability to filter the most important and most attention grabbing topics from any feed or blog. PostRank is particular to each blog’s statistics and is not a universal algorithm. The resulting ranked lists can then be subscribed through any regular feedreader. For example, the “best posts” from WeblogToolsCollection’s feed are available through this feed. You can perform a similar analysis on your blog by using the simple search on the main page. You can also use the service to filter the feeds that you read in order to reduce clutter […]

Burn Feeds for Cellular Phones

Buzz Me is a service that allows you to “burn” your feed for mobile phones. I first saw this service on Performancing and it looked interesting. The service is fairly flexible and you can burn feeds of almost any blog or website that offers a feed on its own. It generates a feed page for your mobile phone that you can visit at your leisure to read your favorite feeds. Though I have some technical questions about the service, the FAQ page (on WordPress) explains the nuances in some detail and there is a page for publishers to offer up the service to their readers. I had trouble finding a name or brand that was consistent which I thought was odd and I am assuming they want to call their service Buzz Me. I stopped short of signing up because their terms of service put me off a bit with […]

Feedburner announced today that they are now offering FeedBurner Integration for Blogspot Blogs but what they failed to mention was that now you can redirect the feed of your BlogSpot blog to any other URI. That should make a move from Blogger to WordPress (or any other blogging tool) completely transparent to your feed consumers. You could also insulate against or prepare for a future migration and move your feed over to another source. Thanks to Digital Inspiration for the tip.

Google Adsense Ad Border with Rounded Corners: Apparently I was snoozing when this feature was released by Google but now you can have rounded corners on your Google AdSense ads. This could be a good way to increase your CTR, especially on blogs with AdSense blindness. I can see people coming up with very creative variations of the borders and colors to attract more attention to AdSense ads. I first noticed it on Google Blogoscoped while reading their article on AdSense Referrals.

ChipIn is an online tool to collect money from your blog or website and they have widgets that you can embed in your sidebar. It is a good way to keep track of your donations and an eye catching way of keeping track of your fund raising project. I personally like the backend interface and widget loads fast and you can choose many different applications to display the widget on including hosted WordPress blogs. At this time ChipIn does not charge any money to use their widget and the only fees you have to pay is for the PayPal transfer. This could be really useful to churches and other non-profit groups that regularly require donations for projects. ChipIn caught my eye when I was browsing a Church’s blog and they were collecting money for a new air-conditioner. I might set one up for the WordPress Plugin Competition. Know of anyone […]

FeedBurner MyBrand Now Free: Feedburner’s service that allowed publishers to publish their feeds through their own domain with the help of Feedburner, is now free of cost. This service used to cost upwards of $3 and might be a good way to retain the transparency and control over the feeds of your blog if you choose to serve them through Feedburner. [EDIT] Looks like Google decided to make the Pro Stats feature of Feedburner free as well. This is definitely good news!

Iconlet is a search engine for icons that are available for public distribution and use. Various GNU, Eclipse and CC licensed icons of different sizes can be searched by name. ClickHeat is a self hosted, flat file based heatmap generator that is much like Crazyegg, only not as featureful and it might increase load on your server. Also checkout a gallery of various other AJAXy downloadable scripts from MiniAjax. Many of these already exist as WordPress plugins and others are yearning to be integrated into WordPress. Subscribe to a translated feed: Rafe Needleman from Webware (of Webware 100 fame, of which WordPress won the publishing category recently) explains how to subscribe to a translated feed using Yahoo pipes and Babelfish. The method is very simple and takes a few minutes. I created a feed for WeblogToolsCollection.com translated into French. Thanks Lifehacker
