WordPress One Click Backup Plugin for WordPress 1.5: Ryan Boren has done it again. No changes need to be made to the core WordPress files and the backup works as usual with some new security/usability fixes.

WordPress Hack

WordPress Plugin: Khanh’s Content Adder Have you wanted to add an extra button to the Admin Panel or Quicktag toolbar? Usually, you’d have to edit the core WordPress files, or be limited to what and where you can add stuff. With KCA you can add HTML/Javascript anywhere there’s an ID attribute defined. Configuration is easy: Just upload and activate the plugin. Add a static page post with the content desired and you’re done. Cool! I get requests for a Quicktags hack for 1.5 all the time and now I know where to send them. I might even come up with a tutorial to add the quicktags hack using this. Now back to Pictorialis 1.1 Thanks BloggingPro

Cool Scripts, WordPress Hack

Bob Apthrope (link?) has made some much needed modifications to my WordPress One Click backup and has fixed some of the bugs and nagging problems mentioned by a lot of people. I appreciate his work. Here are some of the improved features and fixes: date format is now YYYYMMDD-hhmmss so they sort nicely The zip file only compresses the path relative to your WordPress install Excluded archiving anything in the backup folder. This dramatically cuts down on the size of the backup files. No more recursive file backups. Fixed a bug in the links to the just-created backup files – $siteurl wasn’t getting set. That was a minor fix. Fixed a potential security hole. Rewrote some of the README file to give examples of Apache access control and provide a little extra security-through-obscurity. Items not fixed yet include reported problems with WordPress 1.5. If I can get a bug report […]

Eric Meyer: WP-Gatekeeper: A more accessible CAPTCHA solution to prevent comment Spam in WordPress. Interesting solution that has been tried before and has had mixed reviews from users. [EDIT] Interesting twist I did not quite catch at first glance My goal was to create a system … rotates between as many challenges as one cares to set up. It could be just one challenge, or a set of 100. So a blog could ask for the blogname, the author’s name and the day of the week, for example.

Link Cosmos and rel=”nofollow”

If you are using the Technorati Link Cosmos using PHP then links that this tag generates will be counted by Search engines as being valid – which they may well be. But if a spammer sets up a blog, and links to you, you will be counted as providing a valid link. You might not want that to happen. The altered script can be grabbed here: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/downloads/cosmos.phps It won’t remove the link and it’s not ideal as you are tarring all links with the same brush, but it will make the spammers link useless for pagerank purposes.
