Question…I am surprised that this can upload just about anything to my cell phone “without any cost.”

Let me make sure I understand this right: if I use this little page to upload say a background to my Verizon Wireless LG cell phone there won’t be any charges added to my monthly bill?

This is awsome if it works the way I’m understanding it.

No expense beside any internet access charges on your phone. If you have free internet access (monthly charge or in your plan) then it is completely free. :)

  3. Chris G. (3 comments.) says:

Too good to be true. I don’t have internet on my cell…isn’t worth the cost that Verizon charges.

Oh well, looks like a great idea anyways :)

  4. Josh Jarmin (3 comments.) says:

I got it to work on my Alltel phone, sort of. I tried to send a gif image to my phone and I got the message but no image with it. Did I miss some step?

  5. Mark says:

You should get a message with a link which you have to click. If your phone is internet enabled, you will be able to click that link and get the download.

  6. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Tried it with my T-Mobile service and a Nokia 6010. I received a text message:

    anonymous@wltc.net /Ringtones,screensavers,pictures and more/http://mindfulmusings.net/cellupload/141325dyson.jpg.wml

However, the phone can’t find the embedded web address. I’m wondering if it needs a space between the “more/” and the “http”.

I’d type it in manually, but I don’t actually have the internet access on my plan, though I may have to flip it on for a month just for this…

  7. Mark (386 comments.) says:

I believe that the reason it cannot find the address is because you do not have the web enabled. I would like to get that confirmed.

  8. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

It’s possible, but the phone doesn’t know whether I have web enabled or not (I’ve checked, and it will gladly attempt to try to connect to a website and just time out.) It also picks out the email address without problems.

  9. J says:

I tried it as well on my LG 6100 and Verizon service. I do not have the Mobile Web plan option, but have set up my phone with a free WAP proxy so I can easily browse the web without using Verizons WAP proxy (see Howardforums.com for how to do that if you are interested).

I got the same result as Patrick O’Leary, received an email message. Email address is saveable, replyable etc, but the link in the message is not highlighted/identified and I can’t save or open it directly in the browser.

    Oh well. Hope this helps.

  10. Mark says:

Wow. I appreciate all your help so far. I think I know where the problem is and am trying to fix it. Can we try again please? PS: I know that the Alltel phones without internet access do not work. For others, if you do not see the link, can we try looking for an “options” and a go to link somewhere?
    Again, thanks for the feedback!

  11. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Yes, I tried the Options->Use detail->Web address and it didn’t pick it out. (The Nokia 6010 doesn’t show the links until you ask, so this is what I had already done.)

I think I might turn on the internet access for a few days. They say they prorate it and my billing cycle is on the 9th, so as long as I stop it before then, it shouldn’t cost more than a couple of bucks.

  12. Mark says:

I did make a change, so I would try it again.

  13. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Addendum: Tried it again, still no luck. As far as the Nokia goes, I’m pretty sure it’s looking for the web address with spaces on either side (or at the beginning with a space after.) The HTML tag definitely did not work, and my phone just displayed the tag as plaintext.

I manually entered the address into my WAP browser, however, and this worked fine and I was able to download the file. Painful typing all that on a phone, though.

  14. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Didn’t refresh before posting again. See above reply. Sorry.

  15. Mark says:

Try now, I added space around the link. See if that makes a difference. You are awesome for helping me out, BTW

  16. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

    Still “No addresses found.”

Like I said, I think all the phone needs is something like this:

    …and more/ http://mindfulmusings

with a space before the http starts, and nothing at the end of the address. This might be Nokia-specific, if it is, you might need to ask what phone we have as well as what service. The HTML is displayed as before as plaintext, since the SMS viewer is not hooked up to the WAP rendering engine.

  17. Mark says:

    OK, added the extra space.

  18. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Just tried it again. No space in the SMS message before the “http”. Either you added it and something is stripping it out, or you didn’t put it where you thought you put it. If the former, then clearly this isn’t something in your control; if the latter, you might take another look.

  19. Mark says:

You are right. The spaces before the http are there. I have now added some more characters before the space which might prompt them to keep it there.

  20. Scotty says:

I tried LG 4010 and the url that was text messaged was missing a lot of numbers right in the middle of the url. Freaky. I develop too, so I feel your pain on the cross platform scripting.

  21. Mark says:

Can you try to explain how? That might be the secret of the whole problem. Which service were you using?

  22. Patrick O'Leary (8 comments.) says:

Nailed it, works great. Now that I’ve got a couple of things I want onto my phone, time to turn off the web service. Thanks!

  23. Kristen says:

  47. Banai (1 comments.) says:

Worked on my phone! I have a Nokia 6010 from Cingular. It took a bit of fishing to figure out how to use the ‘Net from the freebie cell. Some tips for people having trouble: “options” menu > “use detail” > “web address”, “download file” (use the send button to choose the download).

I don’t have the media packages, but Cingular just charges by the text message and by the kilobyte if you use SMS and web access. So this probably cost me $.15.

And the guys at Cingular said it couldn’t be done… How does this work?

  48. Danny (1 comments.) says:

audio/midi is my file type. I’m trying to load onto a Nokia 6010 with T-Mobile and can’t finf the file! Help! Your page sasy I’ve done it and check the phone but I can’t find the file!!

  49. Christina says:

i have a cingular phone with t-mobile service and i really want ring-tones, i have t-mobile internet on my phone but i can’t access it, if there is anyway you can help please email me back! i would really like to have some cool ringtones. thanx

  50. Ryutora says:

FYI, because of Verizon Wireless’ download protocol, you can’t use the same proceedure as Sprint.

In other sites, they use the “pix message” format. I don’t know what this entails, but I just thought that I’d let you know. Due to spammers, I won’t leave a real e-mail addy. Good luck in getting your upload tool working! :)

  51. Ringcing says:

It is not completely true. You will get a web URL from the site on yr phone and ofcourse will pay the charges to access the site using your phones browser. It takes less than 10 secs to get the file from the URL. The site does work and it rocks.

  52. Curt says:

This looks interesting and will check it out later. Has anyone used it to upload ringtones to a Motorola V60i on the Cingular System?

  53. chuck says:

I can access the url on my phone and it says the ringtone downloaded. I use alltel and have a lg ax5000 phone. How do I designate it as my ringtone???? Please help!

  54. Mark (118 comments.) says:

Click on sounds and then find it under one of the obtuse selections, play around, I am sure you will find it.

  55. Sally says:

Have you tried using Meomo. You can upload pictures and tones to your handset as long as you have a wap enabled handset.

    Have fun :-)

  56. Chan says:

I think a lot of the problems accuring is from people not converting the file properly, for the ringtones. This is just an assumption, I have a Nokia 3155i and the ringtones are in .gcp, which can be converted easily by just looikng it up. Most ringtones should be within 30 sec. since most phones go to voicemail after that. Also, make sure the file have no spaces like “mysong.gcp”. I’ve uploaded many songs and usually would recieve a text message with the url, then connect to the internet and browse the site and it should ask to download, click yes and thats pretty much it.

Hi, I would just like to know, if this would work with the sidekick 3 w/ T-mobile or if I do use it, will it charge me anything if I have the unlimited data plan w/ t-mobile? Please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks! =)

  60. Mark (118 comments.) says:

It should not cost you anything with the unlimited data plan and it SHOULD work with the sidekick/t-mobil. If it does not work, please let me know and I will try to work around it for you.

This is a perfect idea. thanks I just need it to work.
