This is written by Jessica Beck I admit it: I have a love affair with my blog. It started so fast, as these things do. I had a LiveJournal, which was okay as far as that goes, but after three years of friends-only journaling, the spark was gone. It just didn’t excite me anymore. I’d been eyeing the platform blogs for a while – the sexy, inscrutable Movable Type, the alluringly available WordPress. I told myself I was happy with what I had, but it was hard to deny that my eye was wandering. Then, one day, […]

This is written by Chris Poteet It amazes me how many bloggers spent an inordinate amount of time trying to improve their hits, comments, etc. that they forget the most important element in having a good blog. If the content is found lacking then often it doesn’t matter how pretty your site is, or how often your site gets hit. The content of your blog is what separates the good from the bad, and the visited to the not visited. What will follow are tips that will help to ensure that your sphere of influence in the blogging […]

This is written by Manuel Amador Today, I’ll tell you an amazing story: how a blog post travels the Internet, in full detail. Few people know the power of blogs, in particular popular ones. To illustrate just how much leverage can a single blog post have, I’ll explain how a post travels around the world, from the moment it’s conceived into the distant future. As you read this story, hopefull you’ll learn a few awe-inspiring facts. The braindump: from idea to article The very first thing: a post must be conceived. Some people write several drafts, and […]

Please rate this article using the star system below. The competition will be judged primarily on the input from readers like you. Thank you. This is written by Haasim Mahanaim The so-called “Microsoft Scandal” began when Microsoft and public relations firm, Edelman PR, gave 90 influential bloggers high-end laptops. The machines were powered by Microsoft’s yet-to-be released operating system, Windows Vista. The computers were accompanied with a letter (or a phone call) that described the laptops as a “present” with “no strings attached”. Bloggers were free to keep the machines or give them away. Thanks to all of you that have liked the new design. It has really helped page views and lots of people are finding tools that used to get ignored. All of those are good things. However, the new theme might have caused certain problems as well. I have heard complaints in two general areas: This blog is broken on Internet Explorer 6.x . Not sure if and how I can fix it since I do not have access to a machine with IE 6 and IE 6 is on its way out. I have received screenshots from a couple of helpful readers, but they only go so far to help. Any ideas or suggestions on fixes would be greatly appreciated. As you must have noticed, Weblog Tools Collection now has a new theme. It was custom designed by João Craveiro. We have tried to retain some of the familiar look and feel but also increase usability and visibility of the most commonly used features of the blog. The redesign is still a work in progress and if a much used/loved feature is missed, please let us know. Related posts have been moved around to a more accessible spot, fonts are bigger and bolder, ads are tucked away as neatly as possible, archives are redone and further polish will be applied soon, the menu page has shed its excess junk, the search form has moved to the top right hand corner, there is a new AboutMe page, number of comments on posts are more visible and the comment form is modern and displays moderated comments. The original design for this blog […]
