[Continue Reading...]I am moving this weekend. I will barely have internet access (helps that I work for the ISP). If you have written to me, messaged me, asked me for help, wanted to get in touch or expect a response on the competition, I will get back with you as soon as I have a setup. PS: Doing any real emailing/corresponding/planning on webmail is close to impossible! 🙂 Oh, yes… two 2005FPs are rocking the house!
[Continue Reading...]If you are a programmer and have written ANY code, you know that bugs are a part of life. If you have written a substantial amount of code, you know that bugs can get out of hand, forgotten and can become serious flaws or vulnerabilities in your software/scripts. If you find a script, program or document to be particularly vulnerable, please take the time to make the programmer(s) aware that there is a problem with their program that should be fixed immiediately, BEFORE announcing it to the wide world. New vulnerabilities are always being found and older code always falls victim to newer exploits. Stop complaining and be respectful. Instead of telling the world how to hack into a blog using a vulnerability, spend that time writing a small fix for it or at least emailing the person involved. This “beating the chest” is even more incredulous when a fellow […]
[Continue Reading...]The end of the plugin competition is on 15 days away. We have over 52 registered authors on the pluginblog, many many plugins have come out of the competition and all of this is great news for the WordPress community. Just a few items for the competition hopefuls. (This information is cross-posted on the pluginblog and the pluginwiki and on WeblogToolsCollection.com.) In order to make sure that I have the correct bit of code and to level the playing field, I request that the plugins be sent to me email address as an entry into the competition. Here is what is needed: One email per plugin entered into the competition Subject of the email should be exactly “WordPress Plugin Competition #1 Entry” followed by the name of your plugin The email should contain the following: A zip file with your code and complete installation instructions A small writeup of what […]
[Continue Reading...]The Pictorialis Forums have been hacked beyond repair. The hackers have left a message that says that the data is intact and can be restored but I refuse to ask them to do so or pay them in return. From what I gather, the database was modified to stuff the data into table overhead and out of the tables. I realize that a lot of information (and a lot of hard work from users/programmers) on and about Pictorialis used to be on those forums and I would like to restore them from my last backup (from about 3 weeks ago) which I think I can do. This will take some time and the forums might not be up for some time. I apologize for the inconvenience. I have received a lot of good advice from PHPBB admins. I concede that I had not upgraded in the past few months and […]

[Continue Reading...]My first post EVER on a blog was back in and around March 2003 but I had lost a few months of posts in an upgrade somehow. I vaguely remember writing about a cool new blogging tool that I liked, added some stuff about SlashDot and then rambled on about how I might get used to writing on a blog. I had always loved to write and typing was so much easier than pen and paper. I had just started taking classes for my Masters degree in computer science and I figured that this would be a good way to get my arms around some programming projects. I really wish I could find a cache somewhere of those pages. I might look around my old hard drives to see if there is still something there. Wait…here is something. This is from the first b2 install on my server at home, […]
[Continue Reading...]Firefox Security Flaw: If this news has not reached you yet, might want to take a quick gander. Fix (and the fix for the fix) is already in the trunk and should be released soon.
[Continue Reading...]WordPress Plugin Competition Forums: As an addendum to the ongoing WordPress Plugin and Mod Competition Blog and Wiki, I have put together a set of forums as well. bbPress is the forum manager of choice and the style comes from the talented Fernando Graphicos. Please let me know if some other forum areas are needed or if something is amiss. As a side note, the code is lightweight and very, very streamlined. Loving bbPress so far. An admin console would be an excellent addition! [EDIT] Gone.
