From a reader: We’re looking for a plugin for wordpress that will bypass the need to use the “more” tag to break long posts. In short, what we’d like is something like what is available with Moveable Type, which has two input boxes for each post an author makes. If the author types in both boxes when making a post, the break in the post appears at the point between the two boxes. We haven’t been able to find anything like this that works with the Word-style text editor. Do you know of anything that we could use for this? Unfortunately, our bloggers aren’t the most tech-savvy, so we’re trying to reach a solution even SIMPLER than the “More” tag. Please email me if you have a solution or would like to work on one. I will pass it on.

Broadband Networking Via Human Skin You could transfer digital images from your camera just by touching the PC while the camera is hanging off your neck. Like-wise music from an MP3 player in your pocket could be easily transferred to your wireless headphones without any need for cabling. Wow, imagine the possibilities and the headaches. Cooties!

From time to time I get comment spam that makes me think “Do these people actually think before they spam or are they all <insert expletive here>?” So my blog can be used as one of the methods of increasing the page rank/sales of a certain Pop Up Blocker called Pop Up Blocker. Blocking popups cannot be simple business and I do not sell Popup Blockers from this site but I guess I could. I wonder if this post will rate high on a search for Pop Up Blockers for Internet Explorer or for Popup Blockers for Internet Explorer. How about Pop-Up blocker for Internet Explorer? Do we list Popup Blocker for Mozilla or Pop Up Blocker for Firefox? Block all your Pop Ups by getting the software from Pop Up Blocker If you are getting here through a search on Popup Blockers or for Pop-Up Blocker or Pop Up […]

I have turned off all commenting on this blog till I can come up with an acceptable method to prevent spammers from DoSing the mysql server. On average yesterday, the server received ~10,000 comment spam post requests and thus the scattered downtime for the server. I need to prevent a database query for every comment request, somehow. Please email me if you have some ideas or already have something in place. Be back with comments soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. PS: I am not really looking for a spam filter (of which I have enough). I need something that would intercept spam comments before the commenting process starts and accesses the database. [EDIT] Back on again, please report any problems. Suggestions that I have found useful include: Apache mod_security, Spam Valve, Bad behavior, WP Hashcash and Referer Bouncer I have already implemented a couple of these and am in the […]

I apologize for the delay in the judging of the Plugin Competition. I am sure the judges are really busy and we will get the results soon. The time taken is due to the varied installs and the requirements of each of the entries. I hope to have all the results in and tallied and the winners announced by the end of this week. Most of the cause of the delay is probably my fault. I already have the results from two of the judges and waiting patiently on at least four others. No pressure. 😉

The WordPress Plugin Competition is being judged as we speak. I had anticipated unforeseen events in the personal/work life of the judges and that has turned out to be the case. As soon as I receive all the judging decisions, I will post the results and the winners. Just as I write this post, a couple are starting to trickle in. *anticipation*
