Cool Scripts, WordPress Hack

A new version of the backup scripts for WordPress 1.2 Mingus is now available. This has been tested with 1.2 Mingus and the instructions have been updated along with some of the code. Some of the new and original features are: One click backup of the WordPress MySql database which can be then downloaded from your browser without the use of any FTP client. One click backup of all the files inside your WordPress folder which can then be downloaded from your browser. Date coded backup named for sql files and zipped WordPress files. Better checking of user level. This menu is only available to users with level 10 (or admin) and every backup/restore script has user checking built in to prevent un authorized usage of this tool. One click restore of database (if you have a Linux server) More streamlined SQL creation resulting in faster backups and cleaner dumps. […]

XHTML Tips and Tricks

In keeping with my previous post about promoting better programming/coding/markup/style practices among present developers and designers, I have decided to add a couple of categories to this blog and promise to add a few articles every week to those categories. XHTML syntax, better semantics, (common) validation issues and fixes for them, better explanation of validation errors are fair game. I invite my readers to contribute to this process as well and would appreciate a small post if and when you solve a complicated (or simple) validation issue for yourself. On a similar note, I am still looking for more authors for this blog. WordPress people are, as always, more than welcome, but my focus is on getting some authors for other blog tools such as Drupal, MT, Bloxsom etc. If you would like to write (and conversely get exposure for your site/blog/tool) a couple of articles a month for weblogtoolscollection.com, […]

Web Design, Web Ethics, XHTML Tips

While validating this blog (as XHTML 1.0 Strict, mind you) I was reading through some of the banter between the w3c and various XHTML fanatics while reading through a comment left on pictorialis by another XHTML fanboy. The fanboy had a loud mouth, was wrong in his assumptions and just looked really moronish in his assertions. In spite of that idiot, what the heck is wrong with the standards people? Take the work of w3c for example. They make standards which are too hard for end users to understand (P3P), standards which are too brittle for the real world (XHTML 2.0) and standards which developers can’t be bothered with (XHTML Basic) (quote: mpt). This is, of course, the view of a usability guru. There are various other opinions littering the web ranging from “XHTML and DTDs are the *only* future of the web” to hate and scorn for XHTML types. Photolog Script, WordPress Hack

I have noticed a few issues with Pictorialis II that I would like to address. – The display of thumbnails inside an album was a little weird. The pictures would overlap in some cases and vertical alignment was very poor. That is cleared up in this version and the positioning is much better – The ability to add pictures to an album after it was posted was shaky at best. This has been cleaned up so now you can add an album, wait for a few days and then add pictures singly to that album at your leisure and directly from your browser. – As promised, the NetPBM binaries needed for Pictorialis II is ready for download. To use these binaries simple unzip the folder and copy all the files into the wp-admin directory of your Pictorialis install. You can download the NetPBM binaries from here. – New logo from […]
