WordPress 3.5 has been out for a little over a week and downloaded over 2 million times, and the team all ready to start focussing on the next major release.

The development on WordPress 3.6 will be lead this time by WordPress veteran Mark Jaquith, who is planning to focus this release on content editing improvements, listing “revisions, autosave, workflow, [and] editing modes” as suggested areas of focus. This is just his suggestion at this time, and a planning meeting in early January will further narrow down the focus to specifics.

Mark is also looking for a backup lead, who will help with “the planning, execution, and delivery of the release” and otherwise cover for Mark if he is unavailable. If you have experience with WordPress core development, apply now!

Mark is a great choice for the 3.6 lead, and tightening up content creation is perfect for the next release.

  2. I’ve got a few things still bugging me that I hope to see come out in 3.6! Mostly these consist of functions which exist as popular plugins but have not yet been integrated into the WordPress core. It can become a real pain to load in plugins again and again for each new site, when they are basics like google xml sitemap, all in one seo and contact form 7 etc. That said – who would choose one plugin over the over…

I’d love to see sitemap integration, but contact forms and SEO I think are better left as plugins. It comes down to whether a plugin can do it better standalone vs having to work around the ins and outs of an API.

They been very busy lately I see. Another round of WP updates coming up in the near future. Thank god, I only got less than 100 blogs! 😀

Thanks for the update. The last update, my word press site got ruined, so I had to use a newer template. Mine was so outdated, so I hope I don’t have a similar issue. The new WP seems very friendly, love how the image manager shows your saved pictures now. Happy holidays.

  6. WordPress 3.6! Great. Thanks for update.

  7. Hello dear bloggers!
I already updated the blog to wordpress 3.5 and I am not sorry about it. Viewing of media files and their loading in the blog is much better arranged. It is generally happy with updating. To all I advise.

  8. Marius says:

I will stick to 3.5 untill all the plugins work ok with the next release. Also it would be great to have some shortcodes integrated in the wordpress installation.

  9. Rehmat says:

WP 3.5 has provided us great things, the most important, media upload is really transformed. We can hope even better in upcoming version.

  10. Safira says:

Very curious about the new WP. Hopefully they do something about the never ending post ID’s. Media upload need tweaking too indeed, and editing or removing multiple posts without having to wait forever. I Love WP. It will only get better I hope.

    Good to hear that
the Media Up loader in the 3.5 seems Good
and it will be even better if 3.6 has much more interesting features..!

  12. Thanks for the update! I have always struggled with the media upload in WordPress and am looking forward to trying the updated version. Don’t get me wrong though…It’s a great platform.

  13. The media upload feature has always been a little problem of mine. 3.5 has helped a lot but will be great to see the new features in this version.
