Scott Wallick, the author of the popular and well known Sandbox theme has announced on his personal blog that he is selling the Sandbox domain along with Plaintxt.org. The sale does not include the actual themes since they have been developed and released under the GPL license. Scott does provide a reason for why he is selling the domains:
I have withdrawn from the WordPress community. Active development of my themes and plugins has stopped simply because I am unable to continue the necessary development. In a way, they have a life of their own.
If you would like the opportunity to chat with Scott Wallick about his involvement with the WordPress community, be sure to tune in to this weeks episode of WordPress Weekly as he will be my special guest.
Plaintxt.org has been a familiar landmark for me in my blogging journey. If I had some investment cash I would continue the ideals of simplicity and pristine design Scott started there. Best to you Scott! You have really inadvertently helped shape my part time blogging career. Props!
Oh man, was my favorite wordpress template…
Was? It still can be — such is GPL. 🙂
Selling investments is going to be quite popular very soon. I wish the tech industry could get a bail out. If you are a work from home developer, consultant or graphics guru, there should be some form of compensation or tax breaks that happen at a certain level. Kind of like the 50,000 you get for having a certain IQ that you can use on research. Tax dollars should go to start community forums where local folks help others make money online, work from home type structures.
Blogging is as blogging does. sandbox and your sites should get a good price. Is it going up on Ebay?
Have you considered the fact that the public teat will soon dry up if everyone is sucking on it?
I am SO staying up late for this week’s WordPress Weekly.
The title is a bit misleading. 🙂
Nobody is selling Sandbox or a sandbox.(com|net|org) domain.
