Continuing with the theme of E-Commerce, this week I had the chance to interview Dan Milward who is the man in charge of the WP E-Commerce plugin. During the hour long conversation, we discussed the feature set of WP E-Commerce, e commerce in general, what its been like to operate a business in and around WordPress and much more. If you have used WP E-Commerce in the past or are just interested in hearing what Dan has to say regarding the plugin, definitely tune in to this episode.

Here are some of the questions we covered on the show:
- What are the differences between the free version of the plugin and the gold cart solution?
- In your opinion, why has WP E-commerce become synonymous with WordPress and E Commerce?
- What are your thoughts on the GPL?
- How has it been like for you and Instinct to run a business based on and around WordPress?
- How well does WP-E-commerce work with WordPress MU?

WP Ecommnerce is a good tool; I used it on a website, but it ultimately was a pain in the ass to implement. Just go to the user forums and see they have a dedicated section for “Fatal Errors” which I got all the time. I’m not sure why, but the owner wouldn’t respond to my questions regarding some things. I think they need more support over there…
Another great episode as always Jeff! Thanks for having me on and letting me grill Dan a bit. He seems like a great guy and he really does have a passion for WordPress which is awesome.
I tried wp-ecommerce for downloads last year however I was only able to set one download per item so there was no way to let people choose which format they want without having a product entry for each version. I’d be happy if it were updated.
@ Mike; we can’t respond to all support requests – have you ever tried emailing say Toni from Automattic. I can see it now… “Hey Toni, WordPress is giving me a fatal error. I’ve looked in your forums but can’t find an answer. Can you fix it please”… its not going to happen right.
That is why we have support forums that we try to service to the best of our ability. The truth is maybe your request was already answered in the forums – I don’t honestly know. I do know that for awhile there were some fatal errors floating around in 2007. And I do know that I’m sorry about that… direct message me if you want to chat π
@ Brad, that wasn’t a grilling – it would have been a grilling if we were tricking people into buying upgrades. Whoever told you that was either needs to cut down on the crack.. it’s bad for the brain cells.
Anyway It was great chatting with you and I hope that we get a chance to chat some more in the future.
@ Christopher; You’re in luck, the WordPress e-Commerce Plugin has supported this for months. I covered this in my interview with Jeff… a couple of times. You should listen to it π
@ Jeff; See you next week mate!!
This plugin is great! I have used it and have it implemented in a few of my sites. Dan & Shayne have helped out in every way when there were issues and the forum is very useful.
Thanks guys for the great plugin!
Hey there,
is the usage of the shop save?
Regards
Joachim
@WP Cult; lovely, glad we were of service!!
@Joachim; I’m not sure I understand what you want to know π
