Ant Eksiler of Turk Hit Box is giving away free custom WordPress themes. I’ve seen an example or two of his work, and it looks very good – good enough, in fact, that I’ve put a request of my own in.
There is a catch, though. From Ant’s blog:
What’s the catch?
Well, there’s always a catch. To be eligible for a Free Custom WordPress Theme, you should meet this criteria:
- You blog should have at least a Pagerank of 4.
- Your blog must be older than 8 months.
- Your rss subscriber count should be more than 50.
- You cannot remove the footer link, “designed by Turk Hit Box”.
If you meet those criteria and are interested in a professionally designed theme, then go check out Ant’s site and put your request in.
Oh, Jim. Two mentioned blogs are realy poor in design. I think it waste of time. People better deal with a theme and mordify it to the look and feel they want. My blog is using Simpla with modification and it have unique look.
It’s always nice to give something away, but I don’t know if they did the coding or someone else did. In IE6 (using it at work) everything is off balance sidebars, posts, header, everything is all over the place. Since most of the internet users use IE6 they should really look into fixing these issues, haven’t looked at it in FF or IE7 yet though.
This is a terrific idea. I recently hired a designer that I found by clicking on a footer link. His work was displayed on a popular site – I went looking for the creator – he got a new client. I imagine TurkHitBox will see similar results.
I give you money, you give me link to show.
I give you theme, you give me link to show.
Same thing.
If not, then why care about the PR?
I think the designs are superb, they fit the current fashion among blogs! John Chow style!
Yeah, if he really honest want to give something for free, why he would asking for any page ranking and rss subscriber? To leave his link in tact is reasonable, but the other ‘catch’ is ridiculous 🙂
Why would you want a theme designed by someone who writes like a fifth-grader?
Ha!
How ironic. A wordpress designer and their own site’s design sucks. it’s off the screen, toolbars, the whole deal…
someone needs to start using standards 🙂
pretty nice way to get link backs from pr 4 blogs. Did any body reported google about this. I am sure authors site pr will go down if google comes to know about it.
well i did not feel right having this kind of theme get publisized here……and the design suck..
Honestly was it a paid review ?
sorry but i really admire this blog but this kind of things well not any more
Asish, it was NOT a paid review or anything of that nature, I assure you. I am sure that Jim had the best of intentions when he posted it and I am also sure that we will be more careful in the future.
If you look at the author’s page, he said that his current design is not IE6 compatible. Other than that it looks good on IE7 and Firefox.
@Carson: his first language isn’t English.
Ah, an exciting new definition of ‘Free’ is being used, where the lucky recipient gets a permanent advert on every page and a potential smack from Goog for paid links.
Nice designs that’s for sure. Hey Jim, how can i get you to plug the free theme i’m giving away? Check it out, hop you like it!
Jim – thanks for the nod.
If my theme doesn’t look good in IE it’s my fault, not Ant’s. I’ve added some stuff to the theme that was delivered to me – I’ll look into it. My only complaint was from an SEO point of view that it needed some tweaking.
I agree with n-blue. Really poor in design.
Well, you get what you pay for… & I’m sure you can figure that one out on your own.
