Developers are from Mars, Programmers are from Venus This is a diversion but it was a very good read, I liked almost everything that the essay had to say and I really wanted to share it. It almost felt as if I was reading a chapter from a book on Software Management. In school I had one professor (Dr. Henry Ledgard, obviously someone that influenced me quite a bit) who stressed the importance of the software development process and taught good software engineering practices more than the act of generation of code. I remember slugging through tons of arcane code generated through a primitive graphical planning software only to be told at the end that the planning process was the most important. Ditties like “Developers like to satisfy a need, programmers like to finish” and “Programmers like complexity, developers favor simplicity” really strike a chord with me.
