Canvas for WordPress?

Canvas for WordPress? Anyone use this yet? It took me quite a while and quite a bit of digging into the forums to understand that canvas was a “layout management tool” that is used on top of a WordPress install. The site is well built and it looks like everything is new but it also looks like a whole lot of new code and complexity. No code was available as of this post but the screenshots look chock full of AJAX drag and drop. It could either raise the bar for WordPress theme management or fall back in development as the core progresses creating a code mess.

I’ve been playing with Canvas for a while now. Karsten and Yas have really made an amazing tool with tons of potential.

It lets you drag and drop your entire layout: the main page, single pages and posts. Also, with their “Ink” function, you can edit the entire color scheme.

Once they start incoporating other themes, this will really take off. It’s going to make customizing your theme something that anyone can do, not just those with coding skills.

I’ve been in a private beta of this for a while, and each version improves upon its predecessor by leaps and bounds.

I’m gonna bite. I’ve offered my limited skills to the (upcoming) beta test. Looks like a neat idea.

  3. How the heck do you download it?
I’ve been trying to download it for the past few days and all I get is a “Thank you! Your email address has been added to our list” to download or something like that!
    It looks cool though!

Read their forum. You’ll find out that you’ll eventually be given an invite to download it (I’m still waiting too).

    Hello

is the redesign seo friendly ,does look very interesting though

  6. When their screenshots page doesn’t work correctly in Opera I’m a little scared about the actual project. However the idea looks good, but it would probably be best for simple CSS attributes (colour only).

I think it’s a brilliant beta tool. Beta being the key word. I downloaded and installed Canvas, it still had a ton of bugs. Things rendered differently (or not at all) browser to browser and parts of the installation didn’t run correctly so the MySQL tables weren’t all built.

The tool has huge, ginormous potential, though. I think it’s an excellent idea.

Is there a working version out without the bugs yet?

  1. A CANVAS FOR WORDPRESS DESIGN

Canvas looks like a website design module that stakes out a middle ground between too-simple Blogger-like template selection and hardcore CSS codemonkeying. The “Drag. Drop. Create.” tagline says it all: Check off a few boxes, and start mo…
