I didn’t realize that the thirteen listed were the entries. (plus scores of “Developers wanted” and many more plugins already listed) We need to advertise this contest more. (please, please, please, help me get the word out) Come on, if you are holding back on your plugin entry – stop holding back. This is a great way of giving back to the WordPress Community. Sure wish I had the time and stuffing to do a plugin, but cheers on all who are participating!!! GO GO GO GO GO GO! –Lorelle I’ve found some really terrific plugins through the competition. I am now looking into being able to donate toward the prizes 😉 ….just donated 🙂 – Jenn Miller

Judging the response from community well wishers, I feel very strongly about the competition and I think I would like to hold this bi-annually. Give developers a good chunk of six months to write their code and then reward their outstanding work with recognition and some prizes. If we decide to follow that schedule, we could start a new competition at the end of this one (say in June) and let it carry over till the end of the year. The pluginblog and pluginwiki could become permanent as a place for plugin developers to get instant recognition by a very interested audience and it could also become the launching pad for sponsors and clients looking to advertise with this audience. Prizes for the competition would be the only weakness of this plan. In that respect I would like to invite ideas and offers from the community. The other weakness of […]

Twilight: Fade Anything is an implementation of the popular, pretty, and generally kick-ass Fade Anything Technique (FAT) for WordPress, basically it allows you to implement this effect simply without editing templates, always useful for anyone who doesn’t want to have to change all the code when they change their look. Twilight: Fade Anything also adds a pulse effect in addition to the default fade. Implementation is as simple as making sure the element has an id and a class of fade or pulse. A demo is available on the plugin’s homepage. Hopefully more plugins will start using this useful technique to draw a users attention to something. It is already implemented in Twilight: AutoSave.

Plugin Help: Owen has some very, very good advice (heartfelt suggestions from an honest and accomplished WordPress guru at that) for plugin developers who are Plugin Competition hopefuls. I personally had no idea that there were secret conversations going on and am delighted to know that people are paying attention to the competition. In plugin competition news, we now have enough money to buy the Sony PSP after all (short a score or so plus shipping, which I will gladly contribute). So, my promise to honor the “Best of Show” with a Sony PSP still stands and I will ship it to the winner directly from the place of purchase. In other words, I will wait to purchase it till the end of the competition. A question for everyone. What are your thoughts on extending the competition for a few more weeks to let some more plugin authors get their […]

Flame Warriors: If you frequent ANY forum, you will have noticed trends among forum visitors and members that can evoke various emotions from you and other members. This website tries to categorize these “Flame Warriors” with genuine hilarity. Classics such as Typhoid Mary and Artful Dodger are explained complete with a small illustration of their possible appearance. Definitely worth a click. Thanks Dvorak
