There is a new version of Pictorialis out which fixes a couple of issues that were brought up with the Beta and you can download it from http://weblogtoolscollection.com/b2-img/pictorialis.zip
Fixes for this version include:
– Built in EXIF support which does not need pre-compiled EXIF in PHP
– There is a selection mechanism for versions of GD which makes sure you always get the best possible thumbnails and pictures conversion.
– This also has some file upload fixes which makes sure that the uploaded files do not get erased before the script gets a chance to grab the files.
– The installation process has also been better defined with some fixes for the installation troubles reported from the previous version.
As in the pervious version, this new version has the following features:
– XHTML compliant code
– Simple once click addition of photos, auto thumbnail and resizing
– Extraction of EXIF information from original photo and saved as meta
– Easy installation, as easy as installing WordPress
– Simple, clean design and look
– Simple navigation

This is really excellent! I installed WP on my main blog a week or so ago, and I’m tinkering with the Photoblog now to replace my old MT-powered photoblog. It makes posting images so simple that I might actually post a bit more often!
One query/request though: I used hand-made square thumbnails before, which look quite nice, and act as a sort of ‘teaser’ on my main blog. Do you know if it would be possible to hack the thumbnail function to pick a random 50×50 pixel area of the image and use that as a thumbnail? It might be a bit of a boring image, if there’s a lot of sky, but I think it would be quite fun. I’m very new to PHP, but I don’t mind doing a bit of experimentation myself! 🙂
That would be very possible! I had thought about providing that choice myself. If you can get something worked out, please provide me with the code and I will add it to the default distro of Pictorialis. If you run into any problems, please let me know and I will try to help. Thanks for trying this out.
Excellent – I’ll give it a bash! Might need to read a bit more of Programming PHP before I start, though 😆
I have a working bit of code! 😀 I couldn’t find your email address here to send you the code (it’s a bit long to post here)—would you mind emailing me, and I’ll send it to you?

Hi – Just if you’re interested:
I developed a WordPress Plugin that converts WP into a photoblog. The main difference between Pictoralis and my plugin is – that you can use the newest version of WordPress, use all security patches and so on – It’s just a plugin instead of full conversion.
Just if you’re interested – Have a look at:
