Simple PHP Gallery I don’t think the simplicity, ease of use and the absolute beauty of this software was quite obvious to me till tonight. I needed to put up about two hundred pictures in relative anonymity into a simple gallery that would not be a hassle to install. Al I have to say is….WOW. The install took all of twenty seconds, the gallery was up in another three seconds and all I did was move the pictures into the right folder and view the gallery page. A Pending Ping Crisis? I agree with almost every point that Kevin makes to illustrate how difficult the arena is, but I disagree that there is a problem. The distributed nature of the feature, along with innovative and resourceful programmers and their tools (e.g. Ping-O-Matic) will keep ping services alive. weblogs.com has reeled more than once before, blo.gs has reduced in importance and players have changed their positions in the market, but the ping services arena is not in any imminent danger of a fallout.

NEVER, EVER trust the lftp “mirror” command to uphold the newest files switch!! My server was hosed with last nights’ backup and we are back on the original server. Consequently we are missing a couple of posts and quite a few comments. The server will have to be re-imaged and I will have to restore everything from backup. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Can Bloggers Strike It Rich? When it comes to the profit potential of blogs, Nick Denton, founder of Gawker Media, calls himself a skeptic. Sceptic or clever businessman? I have nothing against Nick, but the more “professional bloggers” there are on the internet, the smaller the share becomes. Perhaps I’ve just experienced the Denton deflationary spin machine. 🙂
