Bob Apthrope (link?) has made some much needed modifications to my WordPress One Click backup and has fixed some of the bugs and nagging problems mentioned by a lot of people. I appreciate his work. Here are some of the improved features and fixes:
- date format is now YYYYMMDD-hhmmss so they sort nicely
- The zip file only compresses the path relative to your WordPress install
- Excluded archiving anything in the backup folder. This dramatically cuts down on the size of the backup files. No more recursive file backups.
- Fixed a bug in the links to the just-created backup files – $siteurl wasn’t getting set. That was a minor fix.
- Fixed a potential security hole. Rewrote some of the README file to give examples of Apache access control and provide a little extra security-through-obscurity.
Items not fixed yet include reported problems with WordPress 1.5. If I can get a bug report for some of those problems, I will fix them in the download.
Thanks Bob!

[EDIT] Ryan Boren has made this into a plugin for WordPress 1.5. Here is the link to the download zip. In this plugin version NO changes need to be made to the code WordPress files. Thanks Ryan!
[EDIT] WordPress One Click Backup plugin for non-passthru systems has been released
I dashed off a 1.5 version that works as a plugin and does not require modifying any core WP files. I tested only lightly and probably broke something. Consider it an exercise in porting it to 1.5. Also, I changed the default backup folder to be wp-content/backup/ because I like putting all user generated content in wp-content. Anyway, here it is. Do with it what you will.
Thanks for the 1.5 backup Ryan. I loaded the 4 zipped files into the plugins section and made a ‘backup’ directory under wp-content. The backup now shows on the admin panel and it says it is successful when it attempts a backup.
The only issue I have, is that the backup sql file looks almost empty [1kb in size]
Obviously I am missing something. Any ideas?
Thanks again for making the plugin.
Thanks for the 1.5 version. Unfotunately my server has disabled passthru() for security reasons… i get this error message when I try and backup my site in the new menus.
I see this has been a problem in the past for this plugin ( http://weblogtoolscollection.c.....available/ ). Any solutions? : )
I will have a version of the plugin for the passthru deficient in a couple of days if someone else does not beat me to it. 🙂
I get this error when I click on backup/restore, any ideas at what this means ? And I cant see where is backs up my site?
Warning: touch(): Utime failed: Permission denied in /home/omiogazz/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/backupRestore.php on line 28
Its worked thankyou so much now I can change form MT!!!
I’m confused about the sql file size, too, just like the commenter above. Here’s what I got in the file after running the database backup today:
Usage: mysqldump [OPTIONS] database [tables]
OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --databases [OPTIONS] DB1 [DB2 DB3...]
OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --all-databases [OPTIONS]
For more options, use mysqldump --help
That’s it. Nothing else. Isn’t it supposed to give me sql files like phpMyAdmin, like the one I did today with a size of 392kb?
Try this download location.
