Couple of thoughts, one. Any chance for just comments and entries to be backed up / exported, ala MT’s export feature?

Second… I suggest that you put an .htaccess in the backup folder you create, otherwise the whole world will be able to see the contents of your backup folder, or better yet, allow for a path to a folder that isn’t www accessible.

If someone were to get all the files, they could easily get your db password, and with and md5 cracker, your admin password and all your user passwords.

    Just my 2 cents

I like your idea of putting an .htaccess into the backup folder to prevent some sort of break in. I will work on that in the future. As for the ability to import just the comments and entries, I do not see much use for that among the general populous. If there is much of a demand, I will write something for it.

Great looking script, but I can’t get it to display on the admin panel. Made the change to the menu.txt file and double checked it, and the others mods too, but no go. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    hey there.
i tried to install your neat backup script, great idea! but for some reason i seem to get very strange permission issues. i only just recently switched over to wordpress and maybe this is a security issue.
so here is what happens: whenever i create a folder “backup” in my rootfolder and i give it the chmod 666, it seems to go invisible. even via /path i then cannot seem to open it and not download the backup .sql files for that matter… any pointers please???

  5. Mark (36 comments.) says:

666 give read and write permissions to everyone. Does the script work at all (with 777 as file permissions)?

You might have other problems associated with the script such as passthru being disabled on the server side for security reasons.

  6. pieceoplastic (3 comments.) says:

it does not seem to work with 777 either, so i guess that would be the case. so that function is called passthru? if i wanna ask my provider about it…

  7. Mark says:

Yes it is. There is an update to the backup scripts which takes care of that problem.
You can download it from here:

    Hi,
I have a problem with this Plugin.
When I click on “Backup/Restore” in my Site-Admin i get the message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare add_magic_quotes() (previously declared in /opt/lampp/htdocs/kunde03/wordpress/wp-admin/backupRestore.php:157) in /opt/lampp/htdocs/kunde03/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1747″

    Some ideas?

    JudGer

hi, nice plugin. it really helped me the last time when i accidentally deleted the db file.

what i just thought is, if the backup folder is in the wordpress folder, the new backup, will include the existed backups in the archives.

is there any way to avoid this?

    Hiya.

This plugin has stopped working for me since I upgraded to 2.0.2. When I hit Backup/Restore, it simply takes me to my index.php. :|

I haven’t changed anything in the Plugins folder and all of my other plugins are fine. Is anyone else having problems and can suggest a fix/upgraded? I love the ease of this plugin (particularly the Restore part) and would hate to have to stop making my weekly backups without it.

    Thanks in advance.
