Plugin and Theme Reviews are Live on WordPress.org

The talented folks behind the main WordPress.org site have rolled out a new review system for plugins and themes. The new review system came from much discussion and an overall need to contextualize the star rating system. Now, if you wish to rate a plugin or a theme, you must also describe your rating decision in a brief review. The goal is that developers will hopefully be left with usable feedback to turn around 1-star ratings or feedback to carry over to their next project from the 5-star ratings, and potential users will be able to clearly see whether the reasons for a plugin or theme’s particular 1-star rating really has any impact on what they plan to use it for. WPNuggets: A New Plugin Review Site

WPNuggets, a new site dedicated to reviewing WordPress plugins, has launched. The site has already hit the ground running with three reviews posted, and submitting a plugin for review is as simple as sending an email. There are thousands of WordPress plugins out there, so they will be understandably picky with which ones they choose to review, and it sounds like the overall format is still in flux, but this looks like a very promising site to follow if you enjoy trying out new plugins.

Send us Plugins to Review

A week ago, we asked if you’d be interested in seeing a few plugin reviews from us. I’m happy to say that the response was overwhelmingly positive. As of today, 96.97% said “Of course I would!” and only 3.03% said “Yawn, boring!” With that said, the new plugin review submission form is ready to go! Is there a plugin that you’d like reviewed? Maybe you aren’t sure if it’s the right plugin for you, or maybe you want to know how it stacks up against the competition? Well, please let us know, and we just might review it! WordPress celebrity Joost de Valk has just launched an interesting service where he provides plugin reviews and inspections for free. This is certainly an interesting prospect for newcomers wondering, “is this plugin right for me?” Mark Jaquith has been offering a similar service through Covered Web Services, including a full security audit, for quite some time. Sure, it’s for a fee, but how can you pass up something like this from a core WordPress developer?
