WordPress Hack

TechGnome has built a “Blog This” bookmarklet that, when clicked, will popup a blog entry form, with the Title, and TrackBack URL prefilled with the web page’s title & URL. The body of the post will come pre-filled with a hyperlink to the page as well. Here is the link to the hack. Good job TechGnome!!

WordPress Hack

I had written this hack a long time ago, but considering the renewed interest, I wanted to make sure it was recorded. It make a small row of clickable smilies show up on top of box where you edit your post. Click on the smilie and it gets translated and put in the right place, no more guessing! Here is the link to the hack. *Edit* The hack has been fixed for use on comments which show up on the main page (without the use of 12_comments popup)

WordPress Hack

I got a request in the WordPress forums to have a way of autmatically turning off comments for entries that fall off the first page and here are the results. My idea is turn off comments for the posts that fall off your list once you post. Quite simple actually. It takes the post_ID of your new post (which is published status) , subtracts a pre-determined value to get the post for which comments need to be shut off, and then sets that information in the database. Now that I try to post the hack, I realize it might be really difficult to find for non-programmers. Click here http://dinki.mine.nu/weblog/b2-img/b2edit.phps to get the hacked b2edit.php and save it under your wp-admin directory. For WordPress 1.0+ : Find post.php in your wp-admin folder and find this line: } // end if publish (this shows up twice, you want the one that is […]

WordPress Hack

I noticed that there were a couple of links to and from my webpage which were to a German blog and I really wanted to know what they were saying. However, the only way to translate was to copy and paste and do a bunch of mumbo jumbo. I knew a friend who had written a simple Javascript page to use the freetranslate server to translate a webpage. You can see this hack at work on my webpage. You can download the source here. To install, simply modify the script to point to your blog index page and change the .phps to a .htm or a .html To setup a translation, simply link to the file.

WordPress Hack

I found a really interesting article at A List Apart dot com about dynamic stylsheet changes using a simple javascript and storing the information as a cookie. I was really itching to try it out with all the talk in the WordPress Forums about retro stylesheets for WordPress. Check out the switcher at http://dinki.mine.nu/weblog/ On the top right hand side of the menu you will see the themes I have installed for my version of WordPress, albeit with a few modifications to suit my second menu column. Feel free to play around and see which one you like best. If you would like to implement this on your site ( no matter which CMS you use, this will work for you ) simply visit the List Apart link above, download the javascript and follow the instructions. If you are confused, feel free to email me and I will try to […]
