Cool Scripts, Weblog Add-Ons

I was browsing the page of Louis Clotman when I came across the Layout-o-Matic from InkNoise. This is not a new concept and has been done before. However, what makes this page so appealing to me is the ability to control the padding, body size and other elements of the CSS with just a few inputs. Check out this 3 column layout that I created using the tool. Other tools offered by the site include The amazing Roll-over-er which creates XHTML compliant roll over icons and the List-O-Matic which creates complete lists that can be used in blogs, webpages etc and are controlled by various contributed code and CSS. As always, thank them if you use their work! PS: InkNoise also offers a cheap (starting at about 6 bucks) blogging tool/hosting alternative. The SXSW Community blog is powered by InkNoise.

Cool Scripts, Weblog Add-Ons

Downes.ca referrer script is now more configurable, has Mysql support and has a more configurable display. You can see it at work at the bottom of this page and can get more information here. It is distributed under the Creative Commons and counts the number of referrals from different sites. It also counts them by referrals today and by totals.

This is a very cool hack from SonincPling.net. It uses the latest weather information to post the weather of the blog writers’ city (?) Looks very nice and is well written. I was going to wait till it was valid XHTML, but in myopinion, it does not matter. Here is the quote from SonicPling. It displays the current weather conditions for a specified station with a pretty icon. See it in action here: http://www.sonicpling.net With all options enabled: http://www.sonicpling.net/weather/weather-full.php Get the zip file here: http://www.sonicpling.net/weather/weather.zip there’s a csv file included that list stations

I saw that I was getting liked from Blinkar.com and I wanted to see who they were. The site is in potugese but the Google translation brings this up. Here is a short gist of their services, very interesting. The BLINKAR is a system of addition of favourite its links to its blogue. It reads the FAQ . Sounds interesting enough. It might just be another blogroll like link whoring system, but they promote me and I promote them. Take a look…

WayPath has released the Beta version of their Waypath Related Stuff This is a very interesting extension of the Waypath algorithm. Waypath lets you search for related information from their collection of RSS feeds through either their web interface or the use of Plug-Ins for various weblog applications. This extension allows the search of related books from Amazon.com. Even though this might not be very useful for every blog item, somewhat static informational posts can definitely benefit from this addition. I am about to use it to put some books up for my Regular Expressions Tutorial. If and when they release the XML-RPC/REST-XML methods for their new search, I will try to write another plug-in for WordPress and php based blogs. (my previous Waypath plug-in was a relative success) Worthy of mention is that if you have an Amazon affiliate ID, you can include that in your list of books […]

w.bloggar is an application that targets to be an interface between the user and his blog(s), in other words, is a Post and Template editor, with serveral features and resources that the browser based blog editors can not offer. Because it’s a software that runs over Windows GUI it allows the user to edit his posts without being connected to the Internet, saving locally one or more texts to be posted in the future. It can be minimized to the Tray bar as an icon and everytime the user wants to publish a new text, he just need a click and has the editor ready to work, finished the text, another click (if connected) and the post will be published. w.Bloggar uses the well documented XML-RPC interface.

I knew that Blogrolling.com gets its “recently updated blogs” information from both blo.gs and weblogs.com, but I was recently having some problems with my site showing up on the updated list, but not updated on Blogrolls. I took a closer look at the problem (the links matched exactly) and found nothing of suspicion. So I decided to fix the problem by pinging Blogrolling.com directly through b2/Wordpress. Here is what I did: 1) In your b2-include folder, find b2function.php and add this code somewhere within the php tags, preferably after the weblogs.com ping. (Yes, the code is very similar to the other pingers with just a few changes) // pings Blogrolling.com function pingBlogRolling($blog_ID = 1) { // original function by Dries Buytaert for Drupal global $use_weblogsping, $blogname,$siteurl,$blogfilename; if ((!(($blogname==”my weblog”) && ($siteurl==”http://example.com”) && ($blogfilename==”b2.php”))) && (!preg_match(“/localhost\//”,$siteurl)) && ($use_weblogsping)) { $client = new xmlrpc_client(“/pinger/”, “rpc.blogrolling.com”, 80); $message = new xmlrpcmsg(“weblogUpdates.ping”, array(new xmlrpcval($blogname), […]
