There are approximately ten days left in the Blogging Essay Competition and there have been two entries so far. A lot of people have been very helpful in reviewing these essays and many people have posted helpful comments and suggestions for the authors. However, we are still far shy of the ten entries required to judge the competition. A couple of authors have expressed their concern for irking the wrath of readers or making mistakes in their commentary that they will later regret. I am sure that I am not the first to say that every blogger has made a mistake at one time or the other and paid dearly for it. I admit that I have made many of them but I have not let them stop me. The power is in accepting your mistake, correcting yourself and making change to ensure it does not happen again. I believe […]

This is the second entrant in The Blogging Essay Contest from WeblogToolsCollection.com If you would like to participate, please email me your entry at mark at wltc dot net. Please rate this article using the star system below. The competition will be judged primarily on the input from readers like you. Thank you. This is written by Andy from The Spicy Cauldron. Unless you have an inner blogger, don’t bother, wrote Emily Bell in the November 27 edition of The Guardian. It’s good advice for the Conservative leader David Cameron, whose attempts to instigate viral cyberspace campaigns, including the now-notorious WebCameron, are woefully misconceived, laughable and vaguely sinister. Bell’s basic argument is that nothing rings true of what the Tories are doing online to try to engage the yoof vote, and I for one agree with her. Presumably the Tories’ big idea is that all those just about ready to […]

This is the first entrant in The Blogging Essay Contest from WeblogToolsCollection.com If you would like to participate, please email me your entry at mark at wltc dot net. Please rate this article using the star system below. The competition will be judged primarily on the input from readers like you. Thank you. This is written by Joseph from Vibetechnology.com. Probably thanks to MySpace‘s confused contribution to the world, these days even “normal” people have heard of blogging. Blogging allows amateurs to freely publish information and manage sophisticated online, two-way communication with readers around the world. But, blogging isn’t just for geeks and aspiring musicians anymore. Businesses have jumped on the bandwagon and use blogging as a fluid way to gauge and manage customer sentiment. Blogs also tend to be a compliment – and in some cases a complete replacement – to traditional online customer support. So how can blogging […]

Technorati Link Count Widget Add a link count or a “Blog Reaction” link to your posts from Technorati. This gives you a way to display the number of links to your posts, as tracked by Technorati in real time. I had something like this in the past in the form of a plugin but it bit me back when Technorati was either slow to respond or was down for the count. You can see it at work on this blog but I believe that this will degrades better than the plugin I had. Installation is relatively simple, though not a drag and drop and requires some addition of code. I am not sure if there is a WordPress plugin out already for this. Here is the Technorati Blog post from Tantek. Michael suggest that this might even replace trackbacks for him in spite of the issues he mentions.

Blurb your Blog into a Book: Suck your blog up into your computer and create a nicely formatted book with the contents of your blog including text, images, comments, and links. The final product is a professionally designed draft for a book that they charge to publish for you. The software to be downloaded is available for PC and Mac. Their pricing suggests that it is not cheap for older blogs. The only blogging services supported are Typepad and WordPress.com. You cannot create a book out of your hosted WordPress blog (yet, I think).

Blogging Essays, General

I am proud to announce the Blogging Essay Competition from WeblogToolsCollection.com I really like to read good articles on blogging. With that goal in mind and to generate more interest in blogging, I would like to offer some prize money to get things started. The competition is set to start tonight and last for 30 days.
