Ensight – Jeremy C. Wright >> High Risk Extensions: Microsoft has released the most updated list of high risk extensions to be filtered, avoided and generally not downloaded to your computer. I find this list incredibly useful because I offer uploads from many of my sites/blogs/work Intranets and this list is more complete than anything I have seen before. [edit, EDIT] Stupid Internet Explorer completely breaks the blog because it wants to put the whole list on one line. So, if you need to go and look at the list, visit the link above. [EDIT] Well, crap. I forgot about all the web script crap that has to be filtered in the case of uploads. So this is not as complete as I thought it was since the purpose of this list is different. Oh well, this will add to my growing list.

Airblogging.com: Blog from your mobile phone to your WordPress, Movable Type, Live Journal or Blogger blogs. Though you could already do this with WordPress, this service will not need much of a setup on your blog, just signup and post away. From the FAQ and the News sections, I gather that this is in active development and new services and mixed media are being added regularly. Via: Wordlog

If you have not heard about Klipfolio yet, you need to head over to their site and check it out. I consider it to be an information aggregator on steroids. Though somewhat overdone, flexibility is not lacking in that application. I have written a very small (and simple) script that allows the addition of a “Klip” of your WordPress blog for consumption by the Klipfolio application. Installation is very, very simple and if you already have the Klipfolio application on your computer, just download the Klip for this blog and add it to your Klipfolio. Click here for the WeblogToolsCollection.com Klip. You can download the script here. Instructions to install the script is at the bottom of the script. Please leave comments and suggestions.

PHP Markdown 1.0

Matt Read posted a quick mention of the release of PHP Markdown on the WordPress Support forums so I thought I would pass this along to everyone. Michel Fortin has ported over John Gruber’s original Markdown into a plugin for WordPress as well as a tool for bBlog, Smarty, and other PHP-based tools. Here is some information directly from Michel’s site: PHP Markdown is a port of the original Markdown program from John Gruber. Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML). The overriding design goal for Markdown’s formatting syntax is to make it as readable as possible. The idea is that a Markdown-formatted document should be publishable as-is, as plain text, without looking like it’s been marked up with tags or formatting instructions. While Markdown’s syntax has […]

Cool Scripts, WordPress Hack

I recently ran into a couple of situations where I wished I could have stopped comments on my blogs without having to lose any of the other settings. A recent comment flood attempt comes to mind. Dougal came up with the wonderful Spammer Tar Pit plugin to temporarily stop the floods and that plugin gave me some ideas that I put together into another set of plugins. The “Stop Comments” plugin temporarily turns off comments for your whole blog without affecting individual settings for each of the posts. In other words, if at some time you want to stop people from commenting on your blog for a certain period of time, simply activate this plugin and all comments are dropped with a polite message. Once you are ready to turn them on again, simply deactivate this plugin and you are done. The “Take Down Blog” plugin is a one liner. […]

FireFoxIE.net: This is an interesting collection of plugins and hacks to make your FireFox browser look and feel like Internet Explorer. Why would you want to do it? Well, for the diehard FF lovers (like me) they could be useless. However, for the IE crowd that wants to use FireFox but somehow does not like the interface, this could be the ticket! Via: Asa
