Weblog Tools Market – Update February 2005: As collected from Google, technorati and a couple of other aggregation sources. The analysis is detailed but the data collection methods are somewhat flawed in my opinion. Hosted services continue to dominate the blogging market but the increase in overall numbers is quite encouraging. There are some interesting takes on this analysis. If you are using the Technorati Link Cosmos using PHP then links that this tag generates will be counted by Search engines as being valid – which they may well be. But if a spammer sets up a blog, and links to you, you will be counted as providing a valid link. You might not want that to happen. The altered script can be grabbed here: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/downloads/cosmos.phps It won’t remove the link and it’s not ideal as you are tarring all links with the same brush, but it will make the spammers link useless for pagerank purposes.

Google’s Attempt To Reduce Comment Spam: I am not sure how much this is going to help since the Google redirector does not seem to deter spammers in the first place. On the other hand, if rel=”nofollow” was enforced on every link from a dynamic site, it might help (but Im sure that will piss off a lot of people)
