Blogging News, WordPress

Many different sites and blogs have documented what they thought were their most desired features in WordPress 2.3. Since I am as excited about this release as I was about WordPress 2.0 (I consider 2.0 to be a significant milestone), I am collating them here with each discussed feature bulleted under each of the links. Blogging News, LinkyLoo, WordPress

WordPress vs Drupal: Todd Zeigler’s opinions on whether to use Drupal or WordPress to accomplish various publishing tasks depending on the relative ability of each software to excel in particular tasks. Though I agree with some of the premises, saying WordPress Mu is not quite ready for prime time is a very bad generalization and dependent on Todd’s experiences with a very particular need (developing a network of blogs that share content and is centrally managed) that he tried to fill with Mu.

WordPress 2.3 en Español: Alex has translated WordPress 2.3 into Spanish. Though a few more bugfixes might go into WordPress Beta 3, I believe it is mature enough that there will be few mismatches with the translation. Go grab the .mo file from Alex’s blog and follow his instructions to setup WordPress in Spanish. In related suggestions, have you upgraded to WordPress 2.2.3 yet

Cool Scripts, LinkyLoo, WordPress

Managing Spam Maintenance with Akismet Auntie Spam Version 2: engtech has updated his “Akismet Auntie Spam” greasemonkey script. This new version has some nice improvements including collation of spam from the same IPs, grouping by sender, better usability and quite a few other slick new features. If a lot of spam gets caught in your Akismet plugin and you need to run through them quickly to weed out false positives, this script is the ticket. I have been using it since the original beta and I like it.

Weblog Tools Collection web widget: If you ever thought that the material published on this blog might be helpful to your readers as well, you can now post a widget on your blog or webpage with the most recently published articles from WeblogToolsCollection.com The widget looks nice, is configurable and loads quite fast but that is not all. You can also publish your own widgets with content from any other source including your own blog by using the “blidget” (blog + widget) tool from Widgetbox. After you get your own blidget, make sure you check out the other available widgets on Widgetbox. The variety of widgets available is mind boggling and might be fun to tinker with on your blog.

Business of Blogging

The Art of Stress-free Blogging : This post on Web Worker Daily reminds me of why I should be reading that blog more often. If you have heard of or read the ever-popular productivity book Getting Things Done, by David Allen, you will enjoy this post by Leo Babuata. He goes through the steps to perform and outlines the common gotchas and missteps to avoid. I use the “email bookmarks, thoughts and lists” bit all the time but I use the draft feature in GMail instead of crowding my inbox. I also tend to have spurts of “processing times” when I do stuff related to blogging but since I am so pressed for time, their start and end times tend to vary wildly depending on the day. I “process to empty” twice a day and have schooled myself to do a brain dump every couple of hours either into my […]
