WordPress 3.5 RC 1 has been released. Since the third beta, this release candidate has received a bit more polish and is looking closer to a final product.

The developers are forecasting the final WordPress 3.5 release will be in just two weeks. Though this particular RC is quite polished, it is still is not meant for live sites. However, please do try it on a test installation, especially if you are a plugin or theme developer who would rather not have a panic of bug reports on launch day if your product has any incompatibilities with WordPress 3.5. The Media tools have received a rather extensive overhaul, so you might want to try those out if you frequently rely on them.

If you run into any bugs, please check the known and fixed issues first, report them if they have not already been reported, and visit the support forums if you need any help.

  1. Will WordPress 3.5 contain the TwentyTwelve theme? All my sites are still using a modified version of the TwentyTen theme. I’m anxious to see what goodies the new theme has in store for us!

WordPress 3.5 will include the Twenty Twelve theme, but most earlier themes (including Twenty Ten) will continue to work just fine.

  2. I am currently using a child theme of Twenty Twelve. If I update to the new release will everything go smoothly? I am pretty new to all this and this will be my first time updating.

I only used a child because I read that it was the thing to do!
