New plugins
Debug Bar adds a debug menu to the admin bar that shows query, cache, and other helpful debugging information. Requires WordPress 3.1.
Graceless Degradation gives visitors still using Internet Explorer 6 an appropriate user experience, with Comic Sans fonts everywhere, blinking emphasis tags, animated rainbow hr tags, and animated mailbox graphics added to “mailto:” links!
Updated plugins
SexyBookmarks adds an attractive social bookmarking menu to your posts, pages, index, or any combination of the three.
TagSpace lets visitors browse your WordPress categories and tags by flying through them in 3D.
WP Maintenance Mode adds a maintenance-page to your blog that lets visitors know your blog is down for maintenance. Users with rights for theme-options get full access to the blog.
I would like to categorize plugins like Graceless Degradation as “looks funny but is nasty”.
For my home or company computers, I have all the options to choose a better browser. But what about when I’m trying to read a blog abroad at some internet cafe or at the hotel computer? I don’t want to be distracted by all kinds of mumbo jumbo just because that computer is using IE6. A small notice in the header or footer would do.
This. Nobody uses IE6 if they have a choice. I was doing voluntary work last year and had the misfortune to be assigned a computer running Windows 2000, because, guess what, charities can’t always afford to junk a working computer just because it’s a few years out of date. Trust me, if you’re stuck on an outdated version of IE you’re suffering enough already without elitist developers piling on the misery.
I know, it’s generally not a good idea in the long run, but it was just too funny to pass up. š
I actually think that Graceful Degradation is awesome. I think anyone running IE6 deserves to get Comic Sans’d.
